The Team will take advantage of the Japanese rider to continue the development of the frame during the Spanish race and the official tests that will be held on July 6th and 7th in Aragon. More, from a press release issued by Marc VDS Racing Team: REDDING TENTH IN CATALUNYA FREE PRACTICE The Marc VDS Racing Team’s Scott Redding declared himself happy with today’s opening free practice session at Catalunya, after finishing tenth fastest aboard his Suter MMX Moto2 machine. Hector Faubel finished just under one second behind his teammate in 25th place, but is confident of improvement tomorrow. Redding couldn’t match the lap times of the frontrunners early in the sessio, losing time with the rear tyre spinning up out of turns three and four, as well as the two right-hand corners leading onto the start finish straight so critical to a fast lap time. A change to the balance of his Suter MMX machine gave a marked improvement, allowing the 17-year-old Briton to break into the top ten late in the session. Redding would have improved his time further on his very last lap but for a moment at the infamous La Caixa corner, when the rear came round on him under heavy braking and he was forced to run on. The Marc VDS rider is confident of improving both his lap time and his position ahead of tomorrow’s all-important qualifying session. After two difficult races at Silverstone and Assen, Faubel used this afternoon’s free practice session to reacquaint himself with a bike set up like at Mugello, where he finished in 12th place. The 26-year-old Spaniard continued to do long runs on the bike throughout the session, making no changes to the set-up at all. The only problem encountered during free practice was with the gearing at some of the second and third gear corners, which will be changed ahead of tomorrow’s second free practice session. Scott Redding #45: 10th – 1’48.959 “That was a much better first session than we’ve had at the last few races. The bike felt pretty good, but I didn’t seem able to do the lap times right at the start of the session. The biggest problem was rear traction, especially around turns three and four and the final two right-handers onto the start finish straight. We made a few small changes to the bike and then I just pushed a bit harder in the second half of the session. I had a big moment at turn four when the bike tried to flick me over the highside. I managed to hold on but for one brief moment I thought I’d broken my wrist! I’ve had my elbow down a few times today, including round the last turn, which was a bit scary! My last lap would have been faster still, but I had another big moment at La Caixa and had to shut off. Other than a few scares it was a pretty good session and I’m happy to be on the pace so early in the weekend.” Hector Faubel #55: 25th – 1’49.922 “Today was okay. I put in a lot of laps without making any changes and the bike felt pretty good. I had no big problems at all and the only change we’ll make tonight will be to the gearing, as at some corners second gear is a little too short and third gear is slightly too long. Overall I feel more comfortable on the bike, which feels much more like the bike I rode to 12th place at Mugello and less like the bike that I had problems with at Silverstone and Assen.” Pete Benson: Scott Redding’s Crew Chief “I’m quite happy with today’s session. We’ve had problems previously when the track temperature has risen, with Scott not getting the feedback from the tyres he expected, but we had no such issues today. We made a few small changes to the bike, changing the balance slightly, and we need to work on improvements in a couple of sectors, but other than that we’re pretty good.”
