eMotoRacing “Varsity Challenge” 2017
Six major university teams from the USA and Canada are expected to compete in high speed electric motorcycle racing at the New Jersey Motorsports Park, July 14,15,16, 2017.
The 4th Annual “Varsity Challenge” by eMotoRacing will take place during the annual AHRMA Festival on NJMP’s Thunderbolt race course.
Woodcraft Technologies, a major American purveyor of road racing gear, has once again offered a $1000 scholarship to the highest placing collegiate team.
The University of Sherbrooke (Quebec) Team EMUS, will defend their 2016 title against all comers, including the 2015 winner, Rochester Institute of Technology.
The Team EMUS bike is a hand built prototype, including the chassis (!)…it is a bike worth seeing.
Another series veteran expected to show well is the 2014 winner, the Virginia Tech Bolt Team.
Travelling the farthest to compete will be the experienced Team Zeus of the University of Calgary.
Newcomers include the University of Michigan Spark Racing Team and the Penn State University e-Sportbike Team.
These high speed electric racebikes have been engineered and built by engineering students with private sponsorship from major institutions and corporations.
Racers piloting these ground-breaking machines include an Isle of Man TT veteran, a Canadian Superbike pro, former AMA pros, and AHRMA veterans.
On track with the “Varsity Challenge” teams will be several private eMotoRacing teams from around the USA.
These private teams showcase a mixture of production based ebikes from Zero and Brammo/Victory, many of which have been modified to GP-like configurations, and an occasional privately built prototype.
One of the private GP-style Zero powered ebikes is completely zero emissions, taking its charge from a portable solar generator built by Solar Alternatives of New Orleans.
Friday July 14th will be a full practice day, with the first of 2 rounds of racing on Saturday afternoon. The second round will take place Sunday afternoon.
eMotoRacing is America’s premier zero emissions racing series, in its 4th year of electric motorcycle road racing at 10 of America’s highest profile racetracks.
eMotoRacing has been headquartered in Ormond Beach FL since 2013.
