From a press release issued by GSX-R Trophy Press Office: THE ACU Suzuki GSX-R600 Trophy has confirmed that is will now run over 12 rounds instead of 10 as originally planned. When the opportunity to run two support races at the British round of MotoGP on the 21st-22nd June came up the ACU and Suzuki jumped at the chance. Initially it was going to mean reducing some of the original double headers events to just a single race to maintain a 10-round championship, however an agreement has been reached with all parties concerned to increase the series to 12 rounds. The price of taking part in the Championship remains at £12,900, so extending the Trophy by two rounds really is added value for competitors. Now in its second year the Trophy brings a cost effective package to the table with the race ready Suzuki GSX-R600, Dainese leathers, boots, gloves, Dunlop tyres and entry fees all included in the price. Dave Luscombe of the ACU said: “It is great that we can now keep all our original rounds and the support races at MotoGP. I need to say a big thank you to Dunlop who has agreed to supply tyres for 12 rounds instead of 10 at no additional cost. That was one of the key factors in allowing the championship to expand.” Supporting the prestigious British MotoGP round at Donington Park will be the high point of the season for the GSX-R Trophy riders. However it isn’t the only high profile benefit of the series, there is also the chance for the top riders to wild card in the GSX-R750 Cup which runs as a support race to the World Superbikes. There are two British rounds of the World Superbike championship at Brands Hatch on 3rd August and Donington Park on the 7th September. To complete the season on a high the Trophy winner will race the Rizla Suzuki British Superbike at the Race of the Year at Mallory Park, an opportunity that all young riders would jump at as a springboard for their racing careers. The ACU Suzuki GSX-R Trophy season starts on the 4th-5th May at Cadwell Park. For more details or an application form contact the ACU Road Race department on 01788 566405.
