Gary Mason, 26, of England, will be racing the Corona Extra Suzuki GSX-R1000 normally ridden by Japanese rider Akira Tamitsuji this weekend at Road Atlanta. “I’ve always wanted to have a go at the AMA series,” said Mason, who normally rides a Hydrex Honda CBR1000RR in the British Superbike Championship. “My manager talked to Tim [Saunders, Corona Extra Suzuki Team Principal], and I got a phone call, ‘You’re racing in AMA.'” “We’ve decided to part ways,” Saunders said when asked about Tamitsuji’s status. “We couldn’t agree on a direction.” Mason is 15th in the British Superbike Championship point standings with a best finish of fourth in the wet second race at Donington Park, round two of the 13-round season. Tamitsuji is 16th in the AMA Superbike Championship and 18th in the AMA Superstock Championship, with best finishes of 13th in both classes.
