Danny Eslick will race a Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R600 in the Pro Honda Oils AMA Supersport race this weekend at Road Atlanta. Eslick, who normally rides for Matsushima Performance Suzuki, will ride the GSX-R600 left vacant after Ben Spies crashed and broke his hand during AMA Superbike qualifying two weeks ago at Virginia International Raceway (VIR). “I’m really excited. It should be fun,” Eslick told Roadracingworld.com Thursday in the paddock at Road Atlanta. “It’s a great opportunity to see where Grant’s (Matsushima) bike is compared to the factory bike, see where we’re at, if we’re even in the ballpark.” While Eslick will be riding the same make and model of bike on the same Dunlop tires, he will have to adapt to the Showa suspension on Spies’ bike instead of the Ohlins equipment he has been racing on all year. “I don’t think it will be a problem,” said Eslick. “They are the factory team. I don’t think they would be on anything sub-par. Hopefully, it will be as good if not better than the Ohlins stuff.” Asked if he would also ride the Yoshimura Suzuki at the season finale at Mid-Ohio, Eslick said, “As far as I know, it’s just for this weekend, but we’ll have to see how it goes and see how well Ben’s (Spies) hand heals.” Eslick will still race his Matsushima Performance Suzuki GSX-R600 in Lockhart Phillips USA Formula Xtreme at Road Atlanta.
