GEICO’s Eslick bringing a sunny disposition to Road America ELKHART LAKE, Wis. — GEICO Suzuki rider Danny Eslick is happy to leave the cold weather of California and Utah behind him as he heads east to legendary Road America for this weekend’s Subway AMA SuperBike Doubleheader. “I’m really excited to get to Wisconsin,” Eslick said. “I’m over all the cold and rain we’ve had the past two rounds. Thankfully, the forecast looks like we should get some sunshine and warm temperatures up there so I’m happy to be on my way.” The 2009 Daytona SportBike class champion is not only looking forward to better weather but is excited to get three chances at ascending the podium. “We only had one race in SportBike last weekend and I’m really glad that it isn’t the case this time around,” Eslick said. “It’s always good to have two SportBike races in a weekend because it gives you double the amount of data, double the points, and double the chance of winning.” The native Oklahoman has experienced several highs and lows in the first three stops of the 2011 Daytona SportBike tour. He wrecked out of the season opener in Daytona, Fla., found the podium twice in Sonoma, Calif., and rode through the rain to take seventh in Salt Lake City. Overall, he is sixth in the current standings. “Our team is working really well and we learned a lot last weekend in Utah,” Eslick said. “We figured out a good wet-weather setup, which will help us out a lot in the long run, and our dry track setup is already good. I’m hoping we can put that one into action this weekend. “Miller Motorsports Park wasn’t exactly our best round ever, but we’re starting fresh this weekend. With how we finished in the XR1200 race I think that should help our confidence level and create some good momentum for us.” Sporting the No. 1 plate he earned last year, Eslick competed in his first AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series race of the season in Utah and earned a second-place finish on his GEICO Harley. He’ll compete in that class again this weekend, giving him yet another chance to win the race. “Now that we have a race behind us I’m feeling good on the Harley,” Eslick said. “I’m thinking we should have a little better finish than we did at Miller. “We won this race last year on the Harley and it’s always good to head into an event as the defending champ. I’m hoping I can repeat on the XR1200 and pull off a win with the GEICO Suzuki in SportBike too while I’m at it.” SPEED TV will carry all the action from Road America. Eslick races his SportBike at 2 p.m. CDT Saturday and 2:15 p.m. Sunday. The XR1200 race is slated to start at 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
