Rough Weekend for Galster in Pueblo, CO It was not an ideal weekend for Josh Galster with hot temperatures, a bumpy new track, and mechanical problems. Despite the challenges he managed to finish the weekend with three 2nd-place finishes, two 4ths, and pulled out mid race from Middleweight Superbike. On the Friday before the races, Galster was able to get some practice time in on the unfamiliar track of Pueblo Motorsports Park and try to set his bike up for the very bumpy circuit. The bike was not very stable coming into the corners and Josh did not have confidence on the front end going over the cracks and struggled getting a set up that would work for the races. Saturday brought a lot more challenges with the hot temperatures and with his times coming down, Galster was still a few seconds off the pace and had to try to make it up in the races. In Middleweight Supersport, the first race of the MRA weekend for Galster, he had to make his way through the pack after a very long front straight that is used for a drag strip at the track, but was able to slot into 2nd place before the red flag came out and stopped the race. In the next race, Heavyweight Supersport, even after running off the track and dropping back a position, Josh made a pass in the last corner of the last lap to finish 2nd, but his bike was overheating and boiling over with the hot and dry weather. After flushing the cooling system and starting the bike Sunday morning, Josh discovered the bike was only running on 3 cylinders. The bike had lost compression in a cylinder and Josh was not able to use that motor, so he borrow a motor from another rider, Aaron Hersh. With help from Oscar Solis and Dave McKenna they had the motor in just in time for the qualifying sessions for Race of the Rockies GTO and GTU. After putting in just a couple laps to get qualifying times in for the two Race of the Rockies races, GTO and GTU, the bike seemed to run fine, but in the Middleweight Superbike race the bike was running hotter then Galster would have liked to see and he pulled in. With different fuel mapping for the borrowed motor and re-flushing the cooling system, Galster had 3 more races he needed to finish so he could salvage points. He did just that with a 4th place in the Race of the Rockies GTU race, a 2nd in Heavyweight Superbike, and a 4th in the Race of the Rockies GTO race. “I was just happy to make it through the weekend as well as i did,” said Josh after the weekend. “I never did get comfortable with the front end and am very thankful that i could borrow the motor from Aaron, hope you heal up well.” After a very rough and exhausting weekend special thanks goes out to Oscar Solis from Dunlop, Dave McKenna, Aaron Hersh, and Scott Jensen, along with his sponsors Slednecks, BAZI, EDR Performance, Dunlop, Bazzaz Performance, California Superbike School, Arai, LeoVince, Attack Performance, Lockhart Phillips, and WICKed Photos. A best result for both Rea and the team this year, finishing only 7 seconds from the win after 18 gruelling laps in the blistering hot conditions… Things didn’t quite go to plan all weekend though, starting off with a crash in the final minutes of qualifying on Friday. Then, before the race on Sunday, a fault in the electronics meant that Gino would have to race without any assistance from traction control. Gino and crew worked hard all weekend to develop the traction control settings, so to have it stop working before the race wasn’t a good start. Nevertheless, the young Londoner got his trademark lightening start and jumped up to 4th from 7th on the grid. A few laps later Gino made a pass for 3rd position and was chasing the leaders, Lascorz and Laverty. Davies managed to get past a few laps later and the group of 4 riders pulled away from the rest of the pack. At around three quarters race distance, Davies had a small oil leak from the side of his bike, causing Gino to have a few scary moments when following his racing lines. Rea was not able to get close enough along the straights to be able to make a pass, although he tried on the final corner of the final lap, but had a big slide and had to settle for 4th. Gino’s comments- ‘I’m glad I could bring the team a strong result at their home race as it means a lot for them, but at the same time I’m pretty annoyed I didn’t get on the podium, especially when I feel we could have. Me and Andy worked very hard to get a good race set up and I felt comfortable running up there with the leaders. Unfortunately, the traction control stopped working before I went out in the race, which made it difficult. We had spent all weekend setting it up, you have to find the confidence to ride with it. So when it stops before the race, you have to adapt very quickly back to using just your wrist to control slides, otherwise you will get chucked off and sent to the moon. It takes a lot of concentration. But apart from that, I had good pace during the race, I just couldn’t get close enough to Chaz to make a pass. He was leaking a bit of oil, so at times when I followed him close in the corners, I had some big slides from the front and the rear. I tried to get around the outside of Chaz to go up the inside on the final corner of the last lap, but I had a big rear slide and almost crashed, so that put a stop to the podium chance. I’ll be back and trying for my first podium at Silverstone, if it happened there it would be a dream come true! Hope to see you there!’ More, from a press release issued by Team Motorrad: SECOND DOUBLE PODIUM FOR MOTORRAD AT CEV MOTORLAND AND HAT TRICK FOR FORES. 13/7/2010 – Fores wins again and obtains the Motorland Circuit record. In the most convincing fashion, Jordan Szoke swept the Superbike and Sportbike wins for the weekend aboard his Waznie Racing/Ciclo Werks BMC DeWildt Honda CBR1000RR and CBR600RR. Saturday’s Superbike race was tense as Jordan took a rock in the radiator during the warm up lap, and developed a major leak as he lined up on the starting grid. “I launched it really easy and babied it for the first few laps, keeping a close eye on the temperature.” says Szoke “Once I knew things were ok, I pushed a little harder for the win.” Jordan enjoys a 64 points lead going into Sunday’s race two Mosport’s doubleheader weekend. Szoke turned the fastest lap of Sunday’s Superbike race on lap 3 of 20 and was five seconds clear of any of his competitors before the fifth lap. He held that margin until he claimed he checkered, earning his 5th Superbike win in a row, tying the series record. “I have won five in a row, three times in my career now, and I really want to win these last two in Nova Scotia.” says Szoke “I am going to do my best to do that, I want a perfect season, to stamp my name in the books.” In other action, Szoke extended his lead in Pro Sportbke with his fourth win of the season during the first half of the doublehader weekend on Saturday. Jordan lead all 14 laps on the 3.957 km Mosport Circut from pole position, finishing 8 seconds over his closest rival. Szoke earns a 42 points lead going into Sunday’s race. Mirroring his Superbike accomplishments from the weekend, Szoke sweeps Pro Sportbike with a spectacular battle with his closest competitor, swapping the lead repeatedly during the 14 lap race, until coming together two turns from the finish. Szoke went on to claim the checkered and his fifth Pro Sportbike win of the season. It was a busy weekend for the Fast Company crew, as they also prepared Jordan’s wife Amy for her classes, AM Sportbike and a cameo in Honda Pro Oils Women’s Cup. Amy lived up to her famous last name by scoring her first ever National Win in the Pro Honda Women’s Cup on her CBR600RR. Amy snatched the lead by the first lap, and lead the entire race until three corners to the finish where she was passed by a fellow competitor. Szoke was not finished yet as she dramatically re-passed for the lead in the last corner to earn her first national checkered flag. “I didn’t lead the entire race to give it to someone else so close to the end. Jordan always tells me to never ever give up, so I didn’t.” smiles Amy. “I was ecstatic to stand on the podium in front my family and major sponsors that could make it this weekend. I really wanted to make them proud, it sure means alot to me that I could win it today for all of us.” Amy also finishes 11th and 12th respectively in her Am Sportbike class, beating her personal best Mosport lap time by almost a second. “Jordan has been coaching me on how to put an entire race together, not just a fast lap here and there.” says Amy “I have been focusing very hard on becoming more consistent to take it to the next level. I am very lucky to have the opportunity to not only pit with, but train, and live with a 12 time National Champion, I’m learning what it takes to become a racer.” The Szoke’s would like to thank Joe Rocket Canada for creating their one-off promotional “Hardcore Canadian” leathers for the weekend, and BKDesigns for Jordan’s new custom Superbike helmet for 2010. Watch for Jordan Szoke defending his 74 Points Superbike lead and a 53 Sportbike points lead at the final two rounds of the Canadian National Championships in Schubenacadie NS Canada on June 24 – 27. The Buildbase/JHP Racing rider, still only 23 but with a number of years of National experience already, had been second to team-mate Darren Fry for most of the season, but in the bright sunshine at the fast Norfolk circuit he finally stepped out of Fry’s shadow. With only a short qualifying session to refine his setup, Morris made some crucial gearing changes before the first race which paid dividends, as he was able to tap into the mid-range drive of the Ducati 848 out of the all-important Russells chicane. Qualifying just ahead of him was Fry, who was still feeling the effects of a big crash the previous weekend at Mallory Park, and one second behind them both was the ever-improving Mark Cheetham on the Shorrock Motorcyles/Ducati Preston bike, who too was nursing an injury from off-roading accident. Morris led from the off in race one, lapping almost a second faster than Fry and would continue to set a blistering pace for the remainder of the race. Fry meanwhile was putting a similar gap between himself and the chasing pack, who were led for the first two laps by Peter Hasler on the Boast Plumbing 848, who had a brilliant start to make up three places into the first corner. Sy Langford was forced to retire on on lap 2 due to a mechanical issue, but he would certainly have been battling hard with this following group having scored a class win the day before in the New Era Club Championship on his Red Dog Ducati-backed bike, along with a win for Barry Poll on the Perfect Move bike and two podium places for Hasler. Lap 3 saw Cheetham get into his stride and move up into third place, meanwhile Poll and fifth-placed qualifier Stuart Poyser continued to push Hasler for fourth, with Poll finally overtaking his man on lap 6 on the main straight. The race was to lose Poyser on lap 9 low siding out of Sears bend on the back straight, and so it was Alan Walker on the TR Motorsport bike and Sean Hourigan on the David Hamilton-backed bike who completed the field at the end of race one. Race two was again all about Leon Morris who demonstrated his return to form with a fastest lap of the day of 1:10.34 set on lap two, three-tenths faster than the 1098s of the SOT class with which the 848s were sharing a grid. Fry reduced the winning margin, but injury meant he wasn’t able to push his team mate any further, and so it was Cheetham who was close to getting second place finish only seconds behind Fry, with Poll pushing hard for fourth. The unlucky Poyser was again to crash out, this time at Russells on the first lap, the victim of a momentary loss of brakes resulting in him running in too fast and unable to avoid a low side coming out. And so it was left to Langford and Hasler to provide the closest racing of the day, the two riders never more than a second apart the whole race, with the experienced Langford just holding off the challenges of the ex-KTM Cup rider when the race was red-flagged. When Walker crashed at the super-fast Corams Curve on lap 7 the race continued briefly under yellows but was soon stopped when it became apparent that the popular rider would need medical treatment. Hourigan completed the field, again getting some vital race experience under his belt in his first season of racing. And so racing over, it was Morris who took to the top step of the Ducati 848 Challenge podium for the first time this season to collect the winners trophy. And again moments later, he took to the top step for the second time, a popular result for everyone involved with the series. Fry still leads the Championship on 165 points, but with two wins now to his name and eight races still to run Morris has surely an eye on the title with 126 points, and Cheetham on 120 points is still very much in the running.
