At the Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association (CMRA) race event this past weekend at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit, Hallett, Oklahoma, Racer Ty Howard set a new overall motorcycle track record using a set of Pirelli Diablo Superbike Slicks. Howard’s time of 1:16.149, as confirmed by CMRA Administrator Nancy Selleck, is nearly 1.5 seconds faster than the previous record, set last year also by Ty Howard on this 1.8 mile circuit. This new record was set by Howard on his Suzuki GSX-R1000 during the Formula One race, run on the track’s counter-clockwise configuration that is used once each year by the CMRA. In the five-hour CMRA Endurance race the overall win was earned for Pirelli by Team Fastlane, featuring riders Cory Burleson (AMA Horizon award winner), Larry Meyers, and Zac Chapman, son of team owner Fred Chapman. Team Fastlane won the race overall on a GSX-R600, using Pirelli Diablo Superbike Slicks in the SC3 compound at each end of the bike, and a 190 rear tire for its longer lasting abilities on this mediumweight motorcycle. All of this Pirelli performance is in stock and available to all CMRA racers from Pirelli’s newest direct distributor in the Mid-west, Racer Supply (816) 550-1992. More, from a press release issued by Cycle Connection H-D/Buell: MOTORCYCLE ROAD RACERS FROM SPRINGFIELD MISSOURI MAKE HISTORY in Oklahoma Race Springfield motorcycle racers Joe Feco, 25 and Frank “Speedy” Gonzales, 32 of Cycle Connection Harley-Davidson/Buell of Joplin, MO won a 5 hour motorcycle endurance race at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit, OK on July 28th, 2007. The team finished with a two lap lead over the second place team. There is a winner every race, however never in the 33 year history of Central Motorcycle Roadracing Assoc. (CMRA for short) has this been done on an American built Buell motorcycle. This Buell is a sportbike powered by a Harley-Davidson engine, racing in a sport dominated by Japanese motorcycles and races in the Formula 2 class. There was a lot of recognition given to this team’s win by the competitors as well as by the track officials. Everyone was amazed and impressed the Buell won. One competitor called it “inspiring” to see a new team like this finish in front of the 11 time class champion. The Cycle Connection team, known as “Too Much Speed” is in it’s first year of racing, so to do this well this early is an accomplishment of great magnitude. Gonzales and Feco, who have each raced on endurance teams with their fathers, are now carrying on the family-based team tradition by racing together as brothers-in-law. Many family members often attend the races. This is a unique team, as it is only made up of two racers, competing in a setting where it is normal to have up to five riders. Endurance races run 5-8 hours. Feco comments, “You really have to be in good mental and physical shape to run a team with only two riders.” About Cycle Connection: It is the goal of Cycle Connection to educate the sport riding community to a safer way to ride your sport bike fast. To quote Gonzales, “Race on the track, not on the street”. These deeds should come as no surprise from a dealership that offers MSF lessons onsite, hosts MDA fundraisers that raise well over $150,000 per event, and many other community events. Through teamwork, dedication, family involvement, the support of fans, and backing from Cycle Connection, more wins are in the future for this little underdog team.
