SZOKE ON CUSP OF HISTORIC FEAT Szoke created Canadian superbike history during the Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship at the historic Le Circuit de Mont Tremblant during a dramatic weekend with unpredictable weather conditions. Szoke clinched his 40th superbike career victory in 12 laps around the 4.26km circuit in 21m31.853s with an average speed of 142.456km/hr. Szoke’s third straight victory gives him a commanding 66 point lead going into the double header at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park finale. “I’m used to a wet, dry, then wet again weekend at Mosport!” laughed Szoke. “Weekends like this one are particularly stressful, there was a limited supply of rain tires and the weather was changing [constantly]. When you’re responsible to set up two motorcycles with a small amount of track time it can be nerve-wracking.” Szoke almost claimed the holeshot, but settled into a comfortable third position on lap one. “I tucked in behind McBride and Lacombe and let them set the pace,” he said. “I was thinking about what I needed to do for the championship, but Cornwell [John] set up my bike so perfectly I just couldn’t help it but to go for the win.” Szoke is well on his way to an unprecedented eighth National Canadian Superbike title, a feat obtained by no other, on August 24-26 at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
