XR1200 HARLEYS TO PREPARE FOR IMS DEBUT WITH TEST AUG. 18-19 INDIANAPOLIS, Tuesday, July 19, 2011 – Fans can get a sneak preview of AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 action the week before the Red Bull Indianapolis GP, as the series featuring Harley-Davidson motorcycles will test Thursday, Aug. 18 and Friday, Aug. 19 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Competitors from the XR1200 series are scheduled to test from 9-11 a.m. and 1-4 p.m. both days. Fans can watch testing both days from the infield grandstands and viewing mounds adjacent to the IMS Hall of Fame Museum. Admission is free. The Red Bull Indianapolis GP on Aug. 26-28 will be the Brickyard debut for AMA Pro Racing’s newest class, which features intense competition on nearly identical Harley-Davidson XR1200 motorcycles. This is the second season for the AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 division, which features handlebar-to-handlebar action that puts a premium on rider skill and strategy due to spec-based machinery. Vance & Hines XR1200 competition adds a fourth class of racing to the Red Bull Indianapolis GP weekend, as it joins the three World Championship classes – MotoGP, Moto2 and 125cc – competing on the 16-turn, 2.621-mile circuit that combines part of the famed IMS oval with an infield section. The class is open to Harley-Davidson XR1200X motorcycles modified with a Vance & Hines kit that includes items such as exhaust system, belly pan, front fender, front wheel and seat assembly. Additional modifications are limited to racing suspension, hand and foot controls, brake components and instrumentation. Like all other AMA Pro Road Racing classes, the Vance & Hines XR1200 class uses Dunlop spec tires and Sunoco spec fuel. *** 2011 Red Bull Indianapolis GP tickets: 2011 Red Bull Indianapolis GP tickets are on sale now.
