April 24, 2010 Heartland Park-Topeka Topeka, KS Spring Break Over for Michelin Pro Series Riders The wait is over for the Michelin Pro Series riders as they headed to Heartland Park-Topeka for Round 2 of the Series. With springtime weather, read that as thunderstorms possible, kept most of the competitors in conservative mode but the weather held off long enough to get qualifying finished under dry conditions. First to qualify were the Michelin Pro SuperStock riders, many of them had just finished with CCS Unlimited SuperSport so they were up to speed from lap 1 of the session. Brian Hall on his Schaumburg Audi sponsored Kawasaki 1000 jumped out to set fast lap of the session, a 1:41.864, to take the pole. While his qualifying time was .709 slower than the qualifying record, Hall wasn’t worried since his fast lap in CCS Unlimited SuperSport was only .012 off Brian Stokes’ record from 2009, showing he and his machine were up to the task. Second in the session was the KTM RC8R of Joel Spalding followed by the Triumph 675 of Jordan Richardson. Richardson’s machine weighed in at 373 pounds, under the 390 lb. class limit so his times were disallowed, moving Eric Bowyer’s Yamaha R1 up into third position. The next group was the SuperBike competitors and Jason Farrell kept the Kawasaki train rolling as he took pole position with a 1:42.167 on his Speed Tech Racing ZX6R. Second position was taken by the Yamaha R-6 of Tony Kasper from Becker, MN and SuperStock pole sitter Brian Hall on his ZX6R qualified third. Hall only got half a session as his transponder was not switched from his SuperStock machine and his crew was forced to call him in to get the unit on the machine. In ThunderBike qualifying, the Ducati of Indy sponsored Ducati 749 of Joel Spalding took the top spot followed by Ray Hofman on his Sam’s Well Drilling Suzuki 650. Hofman, the 2009 A&J Recognition Solo Challenge Champion, held off the Lithium Motorsport Buell of Tony Struyk with each of the top riders setting their fast time on the third lap of the session. With the sun sinking in the West, the SportBikes took to the course and it was another Kawasaki driven pole position for Speed Tech Racing’s Jason Farrell. Running just a tic slower than in the SuperBike session, Farrell’s 1:42.397 was enough to keep Tony Kasper’s Yamaha out of the top spot again. Brian Hall scored another solid qualifying finish, placing third on his Schaumburg Audi Kawasaki ZX6R. For complete qualifying results, go to www.asraracing.com.
