TIE, Olive/Espargaro, 72 More, from a press release issued by KTM: Red Bull KTM’s Koyama fifth in Brno in 125 cc Grand Prix Tomoyoshi Koyama was the best performer in the three-man 125 cc Red Bull KTM Racing Team on Sunday at what is essentially the home GP for the Austrian manufacturer at the tradition-rich circuit in Brno, Czech Republic. Koyama’s performance was supported by Randy Krummenacher, the team’s Swiss rider who came in ninth after a small altercation with another rider while junior team member Steve Bonsey crossed the line in sixteenth place. The Automotodrom Circuit, set in picturesque rolling hills and woodlands recorded an all time record for attendance with 245,039 spectators over the three days of the event. The tradition rich circuit offers a huge natural amphitheater environment and attracts thousands of fans from Germany, Austria and the Central European nations. Many loyal members of the KTM family were also there to share in the KTM Fan Spot atmosphere, adding a real dash of orange to the exciting Grand Prix atmosphere. The diminutive Japanese rider said after the race that it had been a difficult day out on the circuit. He had battled with the chattering problems that have troubled the team in recent races and had “almost crashed seven times.” Koyama confirmed that he was committed to pushing harder in the remaining races of the season and hopes to make a return to the podium as soon as possible. It was also an eventful race for Swiss rider Randy Krummenacher, who said later his KTM machine had gone “very, very well”. “I had a really good start but then I got squeezed in the first corner,” he said. “Then Michi Ranseder and I touched and I lost my rhythm. I lost touch with the group in front of me, I managed to make up some of the ground on them but it wasn’t enough to catch them.” Young American teenager Steve Bonsey was also satisfied with his race after a good start and settling in well. But he too was involved in an incident that disturbed his rhythm. “I was going into turn five on the second lap and one of the wild card riders shot under me when I was leaning right over. He almost took me off the track. It took me a while to settle back and I didn’t get back my rhythm until the second half of the race,” he said. With six races to go in the season, Koyama, who has been a consistent performer in recent GPs, has now amassed 129 points to have equal points with third placed Lukas Pesek, the hometown hero of Brno. He is 50 points shy of leader Hector Faubel of Spain, the winner in Brno.
