Jimmy and Justin Filice Join Hotbodies Racing Honda Hotbodies Racing Honda is pleased to announce the hiring of multi-time roadracing champion Jimmy Filice, who will act as a coach for the team’s riders, Larry Pegram and Jeremy Toye. Filice said, “These guys both have a lot of experience so I’m not going to teach them how to ride. I’ll just be fine-tuning some things and helping them cut some corners. I’m there for them.” Pegram and Toye are competing in the AMA Superbike series on HRC-kitted Honda CBR1000RRs. Filice will be using his years of racing and instructing experience to help the team build on their early successes. Filice was the AMA Flat Track rookie of the year in 1981, and has a total 29 race wins in AMA including dirt track and roadracing. He was a three-time 250 AMA champion and won the 1988 USA round of the 250 World GP. Raised in San Jose, California, Filice started racing minibikes at nine-years-old. He is second to Oliver in number of AMA 250 wins. While acting as the head instructor at the Kenny Roberts training camp in Spain, Filice beat Oliver by a single point for the 2001 AMA 250 title. Because of Filice’s remarkable record of racing and promotion of the sport, he was inducted into the Motorcycling Hall of Fame in 2000. Asked about working with Filice, the always self-effacing Jeremy Toye said, “No one needs the help more than me. I’m pretty excited about it. Jimmy’s kind of resume is great, plus he’s the only guy I’m taller than.” Pegram added, “Jimmy was at the world level so there’s plenty to learn from him. It will be great to have someone to talk to and watch what we’re doing. I think no matter what, you’re always learning and Jimbo knows a ton of stuff. Another set of eyes will always be better. I think I get better every year and so he will be a great help in us finding more speed.” In talking about his plans, Filice said, “This is an opportunity for all of us. I’ll be showing them some things that Roberts taught me, and how to apply dirt-track riding to roadracing. I’ll be there for them to bounce questions off. The factory teams have an edge with much more track time so this will help even things out a bit.” Filice will also be coaching his son Justin, in his first year of the AMA national series, competing in Supersport and Formula Xtreme. For the rest of the season Justin will be under the Hotbodies Racing Honda tent, alongside Pegram and Toye. Justin said, “I’m looking forward to having the support of some really good people. I like going fast and there’s a living in this and it’s what I want for a career.” Justin started riding when he was two-years-old and his father got him a minibike with training wheels. He has been roadracing for over a year now, and he competed in most of the Formula USA series in 2004. About his father as a spectator, Justin said, “He’s a nervous wreck watching me race. He can’t hide it.” Hotbodies Racing Honda is sponsored by Hotbodies Racing, Triangle Cycles.com, Honda, Pro Honda Oils and Chemicals, Michelin Tires, Cycle Cat, LeoVince Exhaust Systems, GPR Stabilizers, Barnett Clutches, Ferodo Brakes, PD Tire Warmers, Vortex Racing, Nutec Fuels, RK Chain, and Shoei Helmets.
