FIM eRoad Racing Heads to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca This July Monterey, Calif., July 1, 2013 – The ground-breaking FIM eRoad Racing World Cup will launch its U.S. series at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on Sunday, July 21 as part of the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix race weekend. The next generation of motorsport will see electrically-powered motorcycles from Europe and the U.S. compete for a place in the FIM eRoad Racing World Final in Asia. FIM eRoad Racing is the world’s premier electric motorsport series officially sanctioned by the FIM, the worldwide governing body of motorcycle racing, and includes races across three continents. We’re really looking forward to seeing these bikes perform.’ U.S. teams racing at Mazda Raceway include Lightning Motorcycles, Team Icon Brammo and Zero Motorcycles. Lightning is no stranger to speed. They hold the land speed record for fastest production electric motorcycle in the world with a 215 mph record and a fast run of 218 mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Lightning Motorcycles are currently competing in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. During the first weekend’s practice, Lightning produced the fastest times on their solar-powered motorcycle, beating the long-dominant gas bikes. Brammo produce the award-winning Empulse R bike while Zero supplies both the Los Angeles Police Department and the Hong Kong government with electric motorcycles. Brammo have been racing electric motorcycles since 2009. They are committed to pushing the boundaries of electric motorcycle technology under the most extreme racing conditions and have also provided bikes for both the Ashford Police Force and Hong Kong government. Tickets for the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix, which includes the FIM eRoad Racing World Cup, start at $25 and there is a three-day pass available for $75.
