TIE Debise/Van Poppel/Lanusse/Day, 8 More, from a press release issued by PTR HONDA’S Jules Cluzel took a well earned third at the fifth round of the World Supersport Championship at the team’s home round at Donington Park in the UK. Ronan Quarmby on the other PTR Honda started 11th and finished an impressive seventh. Riders PTR Honda’s Martin Jessopp ended the race 16th just out of the points but learning all the time and in confident spirits for the future. Bogdanka PTR Honda racer Sam Lowes took a very popular maiden World Supersport win in front of his home crowd in the thrilling race that saw the front three riders dice for the win. The next round of the Championship is at Misano in Italy on June 10th. Jules: “I did a good start and then rode conservatively to save my tyre. After Sam passed me I stayed with him and we made a gap. Then I made a big mistake into the first corner and lost time and was passed by Kenan. I tried not to lose any more time and to stay on the podium. It was not possible for me to pass without the riders in front making a mistake. My bike was really good on the fast corners but I was losing time on the slower corners. Anyway third is good and I am happy.” Ronan: “What a race, I enjoyed that. The problem was at the start the riders in front got a gap on us and that made it difficult to follow. As the race went on my bike felt better and better and at the end I was getting held up but went for it and got seventh. I am happy with that and it is good points so I can’t wait until the next round.” Martin: “I gave it my all today and that was the best I could do. I am still getting faster with every lap and my times at the end of the race were good. I am feeling more at home on the bike than ever and that’s positive. It was a hard race with not many riders making mistakes so I am OK with 16th and will continue looking forward.” Simon Buckmaster, PTR Honda Team Manager: “It’s been another good day for the team with Jules on the podium again and up to third in the Championship. Ronan has been quick and consistent all weekend and has improved. Seventh is a good result and we go to Misano confident. Martin continues to learn and get better and is now knocking on the door for the points scoring positions.” More, from a press release issued by Bogdanka PTR Honda: BOGDANKA PTR HONDA’s Sam Lowes took his maiden World Supersport Championship victory in front of the British crowd at Donington Park in the UK to move within just five points from the overall series lead. Mathew Scholtz on the other Bogdanka PTR Honda was in the group battling for sixth position when he crashed on lap nine and had to retire from the race a lap later. Bogdanka Honda PTR’s Kieran Clarke, standing in for the injured Pawel Szkopek, finished in 17th position. The sixth round of the World Supersport Championship will take place on the second weekend of June at Misano in San Marino. Sam Lowes: “The weekend was a bit tough for me but in the race my Bogdanka PTR Honda was working fantastic so I’m really happy with my first win. I injured my finger yesterday and it’s quite painful now but it wasn’t a problem during the race itself so I’m happy about that too. After taking the lead I was just looking at my pit-board and focusing on lapping as consistent as I could. I upped the pace with two laps to go trying to extend my advantage a little bit and it worked alright so I’m really happy. It’s great to take my first World Supersport in front of my home crowd and I’m really grateful for the support. There’s a bit of a break now which is good as I can sort out my injured finger. I’ll be training hard to come to Misano as fit as ever and ready to rock and roll.” Mathew Scholtz: “After the start I made my way past a few riders and by lap six I was in ninth and in a group fighting for sixth position. Unfortunately I crashed three laps later in turn 12. I’m ok but really disappointed as we were looking good for a solid finish and some good points today. We’ve got a few weeks of a break now, so a bit of time to regroup and come back strong in San Marino in June. I’m sorry for the team but I’ll do my best to make it up at Misano next time out.” Kieran Clarke: “I had a good start and made good progress. I was in a group fighting for 15th position and was quite happy but later on I was a bit too aggressive and riding too hard which led to a few little mistakes. A few riders passed me but I managed to get my rhythm back and pass a couple of riders back before the end. Overall it’s been a fantastic weekend so I’d like to thank the Bogdanka Honda PTR team.” Simon Buckmaster, Bogdanka PTR Honda Team Manager: “It’s been a fantastic day and the whole team is really pleased for Sam to get his first win and close the gap on the Championship leader to just five points. He rode a fantastic race and two laps from the end did the fastest lap of race and gapped Sofuoglu. It was a great job and is a brilliant reward for the entire team’s efforts. Mathew is riding well and was moving through the field to challenge for the top six when he crashed again. We need to analyse the data and help him – he’s got the speed and talent but needs to turn them into good points scoring finishes..” More, from a press release issued by Power Team by Suriano: Power Team by Suriano leaves England with a twelth place gained by Alex Baldolini, after a thrilling race. Unfortunately, bad luck striked over Vittorio Iannuzzo, that first had some technical issues during second session’s qualifying and then suffered a failure during the warm up. After he had a good start of the race, he really couldn’t find the right feeling with the bike and as tyres were wearing out he opted to go back straight to the box. Now the team is heading back to Italy to prepare the second part of the season. Alex Baldolini Triumph Daytona 675 #25 – “We slightly improbe during the race. I had a great start but I remained stucked and lost some positions. Laps after laps I took over to the eleventh place and placing myself among the leading group. During the last few laps I managed to overtaken Roccoli and Metcher, but our bagarre ended up in favour of Tamburini. I’m still satisfied but in Misano I just want to go back fighting among the top.” Vittorio Iannuzzo Triumph Daytona 675 #31 – “This wasn’t a lucky weekend for me. Now, I only aim to go back at work and to redeem myself. I’ve been fast till the last round, so I’m counting on get back at that levels from the next round on.” Antonio “Ninetto” Suriano – team owner – “It’s been a tough weekend and this wasn’t certainly one of our best round. But I wanna applause Alex for the good performance and I’m sure that Vittorio will find soon again the right feeling with the bike”.
