FIM to organise more Road Racing Camps for women in 2014
In 2014, the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), together with its Women´s Commission (CFM), will continue developing its Road Racing activities and will organise more camps for women with star instructors.
“It is my great pleasure to announce that the FIM will organise several Road Racing training camps for women in 2014 in partnership with BMW Motorrad and Bike Promotion”, says FIM Women´s Commission Director Nita Korhonen.
The first 2014 camp will be organised at Spain’s Almeria circuit from 17 to 19 February.
“The first ever FIM training camp for women organised last October at the Albacete circuit in Spain exceeded all our expectations. The female riders who attended the camp were eager for more training and many others who were not able to make this first camp were keen to benefit from such an opportunity in the future.
“With such an enthusiastic response, the FIM Women’s Commission is organising more training camps in 2014 to offer female riders the chance to train and improve their Road Racing skills. We were extremely satisfied with the partnership with BMW Motorrad last year: participants really enjoyed racing with the S1000RR machines provided by BMW Motorrad. We will renew this fruitful cooperation for 2014 and will also receive support from Bike Promotion”, declares Ms Korhonen.
The camp in Almeria will include on-track and off-track sessions. As in Albacete, there will be big names acting as instructors and delivering top-level content and advices to the participants. One of them is FIM Women’s Commission member Maria Costello, who was awarded MBE for services to motorcycling. Maria is a two time podium finisher at the Isle of Man Manx Grand Prix and for five years she held the Guinness World Record for being the fastest woman to lap the Isle of Man TT course.
“Being part of FIM’s Women Commission is an honour and I’m very pleased to play an active role in FIM Women Road Racing Training Camps this year”, says Ms Costello. She underlines the extreme importance of having training camps dedicated to women riders and looks forward to the upcoming FIM camp in Almeria in February.
