Vostarek, 9 More, from a press release issued by Parkalgar Honda: Laverty thrills as he battles his way through PARKALGAR HONDA’S Eugene Laverty crashed out on lap three at the Melbourne Loop, remounted in 26th and brilliantly fought his way back to fifth at Donington Park in the UK at the ninth round of the World Supersport Championship. Parkalgar Honda racer Miguel Praia was in 11th and going for the top 10 when he crashed out at Redgate on lap nine. He remounted but was forced to retire due to damage to his bike. Yamaha’s Cal Crutchlow won the race. The next round of the Championship is at Brno in the Czech Republic on July 26th. Eugene: “My Parkalgar Honda’s rear wheel spun up, came round and I slid off. This was a problem we found yesterday in practice and thought we had cured it but the temperatures are different today and that might have made the difference. I got back on and gave it my all to get back in the points from 26th. There were a lot of yellow flags and after passing people I had to let them go through again before taking the position back which made it tough. I am now 28-points behind Cal in the Championship but that’s a lot better than recording a DNF. Donington Park hasn’t been kind to us but it could have been a lot worse.” Miguel: “I lost the front of my bike going into Redgate corner. It is frustrating as I had just got into 11th and was pushing hard to get to the group in front that was fighting for sixth. I really wanted to be there and pushed very hard in previous laps I was following other riders into that corner and when by myself I was much faster. I needed to go for the better result, I felt confident and my Parkalgar Honda was excellent. It is a shame but we will learn from this and be stronger at the next round.” Simon Buckmaster, Parkalgar Honda Team Manager: “It was disappointing that Eugene slid off at such an early point but it was sensational how he fought his way from 26th to fifth after the crash there is nothing more you could have asked of him, it was a fantastic ride. Miguel was challenging the top 10 again and then braked harder for Redgate than ever before two-bar more pressure on the lever and crashed. We are 28-points behind with five rounds to go all it takes is one mistake by Cal Crutchlow and we are right back in it.” More, from a press release issued by ParkinGO Triumph BE1 Racing: Team ParkinGO Triumph BE1 Racing scores a great result in Triumph’s home round with as Garry McCoy puts on great performance tot take the first podium of the brand in modern era. It is a historic result for the English manufacturer in their second World Supersport season. The Australian rider got a good start and took fourth place, a position he maintained until halfway into the race when he managed to overtake Sofuoglu. He then buit a substantial advantage and finished on the podium. Nannelli did well too as he finished eighth although he jumped to twentieth place after the first lap. He did however pull off a great recovery and after six laps he was already eleventh. He then engaged in a duel with Veneman, Pitt, Vizziello e Dell’Omo for the sixth place. The tyres eventually worn off in the final part of the race and the Italian passed the chequered flag in eighth place thus improving the Misano result. After today’s results, McCoy is ninth in the riders’ standings while Nannelli remains fifteenth. GARRY McCOY | Triumph Daytona 675 | 3rd : “It feels great to be the first rider to score a podium result with a Triumph. I’ve been collaborating with the English manufacturer for two seasons now, but with Giuliano Rovelli’s team only since the last round. We didn’t start the season on the right foot but now we’re score great results. I knew that sooner or later I would ride a great race. I have to thank the entire team for a good job done on the machine which is getting better and better. Now we broke the ice but there is still a long way to go in the championship”. GIULIANO ROVELLI – TEAM MANAGER: “We scored a great result after setting up a great team who worked hard on this project. Garry did the rest today but everybody did a great job. This is the first podium for Triumph but it’s a first for me as well and it’s really an indescribable feeling. I asked Garry to finish the race before the others because I had a plane to catch and he almost made it…”. More, from a press release issued by HANNspree Ten Kate Honda: Hannspree Ten Kate Honda’s Kenan Sofuoglu finished fourth in today’s ninth round World Supersport championship race at Donington Park in the UK. Britain’s Cal Crutchlow took his fourth win of the season after 22 laps of the 4.023km Donington circuit, while Sofuoglu’s team-mate, Andrew Pitt, was tenth. It was far from an easy race for Sofuoglu, who led briefly on the opening lap. Along with Pitt, the Turkish rider has had to evaluate further the team’s new suspension alongside changeable weather conditions and the peculiarities of the Donington circuit. Before the next round at Brno in the Czech Republic, the Hannspree Ten Kate Honda team will test at Imola in Italy on 15-16 July. Kenan Sofuoglu P4 I am so disappointed with the result today. I knew we had a grip problem because when I close the throttle into the corner, the rear feels out of control. There was no grip on the entry or on the exit and the bike was sideways everywhere. On the downshift it felt like a standard road bike. I know the team has worked very hard and I hope we can find something at the test to use for the rest of the season. Andrew Pitt P10 That’s about the best we could have reasonably hoped for after the problems we’ve had here this weekend. I had the same problems as during qualifying, with the rear trying to overtake me into corners and then breaking away on the exit. On top of all that, the rear tyre spun right round the rim during the race. Not great, but at least we’ve got a couple of days testing before the next round to try and get a good base setting with this new suspension. Ronald ten Kate team manager I guess the results reflect the problems we had during qualifying and there’s not much more to say about it than that! We have a test at Imola to try out a lot of new parts that should put us in a better position than the one we find ourselves in today, which is quite difficult. More, from a press release issued by Stiggy Racing Honda: Vizziello fights to seventh place at Donington The ninth round of the World Supersport championship was concluded in a great way for the Stiggy Racing Honda rider Gianluca Vizziello as he brought his Honda CBR600RR to the seventh place in the 22-lap supersport race at the British track of Donington today. Gianluca Vizziello was far from comfortable with the front set-up of his machine in the qualifying practices leading to race day, but successfully continued to build on further progress in the 20-minute morning warm-up session ahead of the race. From his 22nd position in the grid the Italian rider impressively advanced through the field while he kept the door locked in his rivals coming up behind him, and took a seventh place at the checkered flag – his best result for the team so far this season. Anthony West ended the two days of Donington qualifying with mixed results, but showed improved performance as he topped the sheets in the warm up. The Australian rider – who took two podium finishes for his team so far this season – was ready to step up in the race and moved up to fourth position before an unfortunate tumble on the fifth lap prematurely put an end to his race. Gianluca Vizziello,7th: “This weekend we have had a lot of problems with the suspension and we have tried a lot of different things in the qualifying sessions. This morning we managed to find the set up that I liked and used it in the race. It allowed me to put the tyres where I wanted them and put a lot more pressure on. The bike was handling well today, which is the most important to me. I am very pleased with my result today and hope I can continue the improvement in the next races.” Anthony West,DNF: “I am really disappointed with my crash here today. I just lost the front of my machine in the last sector. I felt really comfortable in the warm up session and was riding at a better pace than my rivals. I am pleased that we seem to have found the problem that was holding us back in the last races. It is just a shame that I haven’t been able to put it into practice here today. We will now concentrate on our test in Brno next week and further develop the machine for the next race at Brno.” Johan Stigefelt, Team Manager: “Gianluca showed an amazing performance here today. He just rode the wheels of that bike and showed he can keep his head down and focus. We have never seen him doing so well before. Finishing seventh is like a victory for that side of the garage. Anthony was riding in fourth position before he crashed. It is very unfortunate for him, specially after doing so well in the morning session. But that’s racing, we will now put our focus on the next race.” More, from a press release issued by Yamaha: Yamaha World Supersport rider Cal Crutchlow made sure the British fans got what they came for today as he aced the World Supersport race, leading from the fourth lap till the chequered flag. The win never looked in doubt as Crutchlow laid down lap after lap with a consistently fast race pace. He takes away with him not only the fastest lap of the race with a record of 1’32.449 but also the Best lap record from earlier in the weekend with a 1’31.701. Arch rival for the championship Eugene Laverty fell early in the race, and although he rejoined could not manage better than fifth at the end. Crutchlow’s team-mate Fabien Foret had put his head down to work hard from his less than perfect grid position and had managed to battle up to fifth spot when three laps from the end a technical failure resulted in the Frenchman having to retire from the race, tantalizingly close to the finish. Crutchlow leaves Donington having extended his championship lead to 185 points, 28 points ahead of rival Laverty as they head to the last race in Brno before the summer break. Foret remains in seventh position in the standings on 63 points, 12 points behind sixth place rider Anthony West. Cal Crutchlow, Yamaha World Supersport Team (1st) “it was great to come here in front of the home fans at Donington. I thought we could have a good go between me and Eugene but it wasn’t to be, unfortunately he fell off. All credit to him for getting back up to fifth. It was a very hard race for me, it’s pretty mentally challenging when you’re out there on your own. It was one of those races where you just try to keep your composure and reel the laps off. All credit to Yamaha they put a fantastic package in front of me this weekend. I got injured in the first lap of free practice which didn’t make it easy for us but we’ve done a good job in the end!” Fabien Foret, Yamaha World Supersport Team (DNF) “What a frustrating day for me! I didn’t have the best position to start from on the grid but I put my head down and worked really hard to work through some of the guys. When I got to fifth I could see the gap between myself and Sofuoglu was too big to close so I just focused on putting in fast consistent laps. Unfortunately I developed a problem just a few laps from the end and there was nothing I could do. I’m thinking about Brno now and hoping to have a better race day.” Wilco Zeelenberg, Yamaha World Supersport Team Manager “It was again a spectacular race of course although very different from Misano. I think for Cal it was hard to know that Eugene had crashed, although he did come back to get fifth, giving Cal a 28 point lead in the standings which is fantastic. We are glad that Eugene is not injured but the bigger difference does make our lives a bit easier. It’s a pity that Fabien suffered from a technical fault, the bike stopped which is tough as he was going well in fifth and it would have been good to bring both riders home. A Big thank you to the team who have worked really hard this weekend as always to make it possible for Cal to go out and win.” More, from a press release issued by Kawasaki: Lascorz Second In The Race And Fourth In The Points WSS, Donington Park, Great Britain, 28 June 2009 During a warm and eventually sunny raceday at Donington, Joan Lascorz rode to a hard-fought and well-deserved second place in the 22-lap Supersport race. The Spanish rider added to his second place finish from Monza with his second 20-point score of the year, finishing five seconds from race winner Cal Crutchlow. Lascorz had been in the running for a podium position in characteristically aggressive style, taking the lead for the first three laps until Crutchlow passed by. He held on for second in fine style, finishing almost ten seconds ahead of third place rider, Garry McCoy. The early laps promised two top six positions for the Kawasaki Provec Motocard.com squad, as Katsuaki Fujiwara was on a good pace at the sharp end of the action, but a collision with another rider stopped him in his tracks when both crashed out early on. Both Joan and Katsuaki were enthused by the increasing capabilities of their Ninja ZX-6R machines at this meeting, and expect even more advances for the next round at Brno, on July 26. Joan Lascorz: “That equalled my best result this year, and the machine is working very well now, even better than Misano, so big congratulations to all the team. Halfway through the race Cal upped his pace a little bit and I was not able to go with him, so I had to settle for second place, but I am very happy anyway.” Katsuaki Fujiwara: “I was behind Aitchison when we were going downhill into the Old Hairpin then he had a highside and went a bit loose, so I passed him. Then his bike gripped again and it jumped into my path. It was really easy to follow McCoy and he made a podium finish. So only bad luck today, the bike was very good and we are much more consistent with it now. It is all going forward, so Brno should be a good one for us again.”
