FLORENCE EMDE 1919-2009 Florence Emde, 90, passed away Thursday night in Escondido, California of natural causes. A motorcyclist in her own right as a teenager, she married Floyd Emde in 1941 and supported him in a racing career that earned him an induction in 1998 to the Motorcycle Hall of Fame. Following his retirement from racing, they worked together as co- owners of three motorcycle dealerships in the San Diego area from 1948 until they retired in 1980. Florence was preceded in death by Floyd, who passed away in 1994, and son David, who died in 2003. She is survived by four other children, Robert (Jeannette), JoAnn, Don (Tracy), and Nancy (Chris), plus 13 Grandchildren, and 16 Great-grandchildren. She had the unique distinction of being the only person to be both the wife and the mother of a Daytona 200 winner. Floyd won the Daytona 200 in 1948 and Don in 1972. Arrangements are pending, with a funeral and memorial likely next week at Glen Abbey Memorial Park in Bonita (San Diego area). Details when finalized will be announced to the press, as well as posted at: www.partsmag.com . For more information, contact Don Emde at 949-215-4780 x206 or email to: [email protected].
