October 7, 2011 Los Alamitos, CA Trying to define the 2012 Roland Sands Design apparel collection is a study in contrasts. In fact, it is almost easier to say what it is not rather than what it is. RSD outerwear is not over-embellished, over-branded or over the top; instead it is more about helping the wearer look tasteful and selective while keeping him protected. RSD riding and casual wear offers a positive spin on the spirit, history and design of motorcycling. Think of it as style”¦ with sleeves and armor. “It’s hard to put what we have done into any one category, just like it is hard to categorize the unique crew of individuals who have played a part in the design,” explains bike builder-turned apparel innovator Roland Sands. “The collective riding experience of this group has come together to create true rider-built apparel that focuses on quality and style.” From the waxed cotton and oiled leather of the RSD Limited Set riding jackets to the Main Set offerings for everyday jackets, the 2012 RSD apparel line has something for the fashion-forward folks as well as the seasoned rider. There is also a comprehensive collection of gloves, tees, thermals and hoodies, “The RSD line is riding gear built with a parallel of fashion and function,” says Sands. “Removable armor, well placed sew lines and pockets, flex materials, unique patterns and soft collars all play into creating a comfortable and stylish piece. We’ve really paid a lot of attention to the details.” “Our designs are for the guy who appreciates the subtle details that make an heirloom piece, something you’ll have for many years. In fact, our jackets actually break in to fir the wearer”¦ it’s cool because in time it becomes your second skin.” concludes Sands. THE RSD STORY Roland Sands was just 5 years old when his parents first put him on a motorcycle, there has been no stopping him ever since! His love of speed on two wheels took him to the professional racing ranks for 10 years. He set multiple track records around the world and was the 1998 American Motorcyclist Association 250GP champion. However, 32 broken bones later, Roland decided to trade in his racing leathers for paper, pencil and a computer designing products for noted motorcycle wheel manufacturer, Performance Machine. He founded RSD in 2005 and continues to shake up the motorcycle industry to this very day. Roland and his bikes have been featured in more than 400 magazine articles worldwide, including 100+ cover stories. RSD projects have also appeared on television segments broadcast on MTV, SPEED Channel, ESPN2, Discovery Channel and the TLC networks. RSD has worked on custom bike projects with celebrities and athletes (Mickey Rourke’s latest motorcycle is in the RSD Design Center right now as well as a customized Tony Hawk Triumph) and major projects with industry leaders, including Aprilia, Bell Helmets, Ducati, Dunlop, Honda, Toyota, Vance & Hines and Victory, just to name a few.
