Steve Martin returns as 2016 ASBK Ambassador

As a World Endurance Champion and Australian Superbike Champion, it was a clear choice when selecting the next ASBK Ambassador, so it’s with great pleasure to announce that Steve Martin has once again joined forces with the ASBK for the 2016 race series.

A legend of the sport and someone who has had vast experience all over the world on varying motorcycle machines, Martin will bring a familiar face to the ASBK this year, along with a wealth of road racing knowledge.

Australian born Martin used the Australian Superbike scene to its full potential whilst racing, which provided the stepping-stone to his international career. With that said, Martin commented on being able to give back to the sport he loves again in 2016, signing up as an official ASBK Ambassador, and television commentator for the 2016 series.

“For me, to be ASBK Ambassador is a massive honour, because without the ASBK I wouldn’t have lived the life that I have which has allowed me to base my life around motorcycles and see the world,” he said.

“For me the ASBK was a stepping-stone to my overseas career and it really helped me develop. I want to be able to put back into the sport and see more athletes achieve their goals. I enjoy watching the young guys come through and developing and it’s always a great weekend that’s exciting and fun.

“The racing is exciting and competitive. One thing I particularly like about ASBK is its Australia wide. One weekend you’re in Sydney the next weekend your in Perth. For me, I get to see the best racers in Australia in some of the best places around Australia.”

Martin will not only assist ASBK riders and athletes at the track, but will return as expert commentator for the ASBK television package this year, as well as participate in bike testing and promotional activities.

There will also be a chance to win a once in a life time ride with Steve Martin, former world champ committing to the 2016 ASBK Pillion Program.

As the countdown continues to Phillip Island, the ASBK is excited to make further announcements on 2016 ambassadors. Stay tuned.
