FroggyMoto.com Nips Farrell Performance at Blackhawk Farms

South Beloit, IL– The AMA sanctioned ASRA Team Challenge Series presented by Michelin Tire had its troubles getting started for the second year in a row, but once the riders and teams got into their rhythm, they made it one to remember. It was pit strategy and hard riding in the final laps gave Cory West on the FroggyMoto.com BMW the Overall victory by 1.670 seconds over Jason Farrell and the Farrell Performance Kawasaki ZX-6R in another amazing ASRA Team Challenge Series race at Blackhawk Farms Raceway..

On the initial green flag the field had just completed the first lap when the Barry Motorsports (James Barry) entry crashed forcing a red flag. With less than 2 laps complete, the rules called for a complete restart, giving Farrell Performance a chance to fix a gremlin and restart with the rest of the field. After the cleanup, the field managed all 75 laps before the race became a 2 hour timed event with just 12 minutes left on the clock.

From the restart, Farrell Performance (Jason Farrell) chased FroggyMoto.com (Cory West) until the leader stopped for fuel on lap 37. This allowed Farrell Performance to not only make up their 43-second deficit and put themselves into the lead position by 52 seconds. With the shoe on the other foot, West pulled out all the stops and set after the lead machine, gaining 25 seconds back when the Farrell Performance made their mandatory stop on lap 44.Over the next 12 laps West was able to catch up to the leader and take the lead back on lap 57. After stretching the lead to 7 seconds over the next few laps, West went into fuel conservation mode not wanting to stop again, allowing Farrell Performance to close within 0.650 seconds with only 2 laps left. That set up a “dash for the cash” with FroggyMoto.com’s West finishing 1.670 seconds ahead of the runner up. The final step on the Overall podium went to LB Sports, 3 laps down to the lead duo.

For GTO (Unlimited class), it was FroggyMoto.com followed by the LB Sports Kawasaki ZX-10R (Lloyd Bayley) and then the defending National Champion Grease Monkey Racing (Eric Helmbach) on the BMW R1000SS in third position.

The GTU (Middleweight class) was well represented by Farrell Performance with the win and second Overall, while the battle for the runner up position in the class became a struggle between two teams with tons of endurance experience. The Jinba Ittai Team (Joel Link, Matt Brown) made the best of their experience from the past several years to put themselves in a position for the podium. The Double D Racing Team (Ray Hofman, Jody Barry) combined youth and experience to challenge the established teams for the second step on the GTU Podium. Both teams used a single pit stop just past 1 hour in the race to go the distance but it was incrementally faster times for which allowed Jinba Ittai to move into second place by the end of the race.

As the race started for the GTL class, it looked like it would be another battle between East Coast based LWT Racer Teams, but the local Coming in Hot Racing was out to hold up the Mid-West’s honor. At the end of the race it was LWT Racer 60 (William Finnerty, Sam Wiest) with a 19.402 second victory over Coming In Hot ! (Jerad Herbig, David Shea) while the LWT Racer 171 (Todd Alberico, Benjamin Loyle) finished in third 1-lap down to the class winner.
