FTR AND COGHLAN CHASING CEV AND GP DOUBLE FTR MOTO and the Monlau Competicion Team’s Kev Coghlan are preparing for a hectic schedule as they challenge for the Spanish Moto2 Championship at this weekend’s fifth round at Albacete before moving to Aragon for next week’s World Championship round at the new Spanish venue. Coghlan is second in the Spanish Championship, five points adrift of leader Daniel Rivas-Fernandez, and the Scotsman is looking to repeat his Albacete victory of May this year the first Moto2 race victory for the 2009 European and Spanish Supersport Champion. From Albacete the Monlau Competicion Team, headed by former 125cc World Champion Emilio Alzamora, will move to the Aragon circuit after being awarded a wild card start for the World Championship round on September 19. “It’s a busy period in the calendar but I’m happy to be out there racing and trying to win,” said Coghlan. “The FTR machine has proven to be a race winner at Spanish and World level this year so we only need to adapt from the Michelin tyres and standard engine of the Spanish series to the tuned motor and Dunlop tyres of the World Championship.” At Aragon Coghlan will be looking to at least repeat the exceptional performance of wild card Jason DiSalvo at Indianapolis two weeks ago when the American took the FOGI Racing FTR M210 to ninth place for the GPtech Team. FTR’s Steve Bones said: “We hope Kev can keep the run going in Spain. Since taking delivery of his new M210 he’s won all three races sadly there was a minor engine technical issue at the second of those wins but otherwise he’s looked really good on the Monlau FTR machine. “He will of course keep focussed on Albacete before heading off to the GP at Aragon where I think he can do a really good job whether he can achieve the finish of Jason DiSalvo on the FTR remains to be seen but the signs are promising.”
