Fuchs-Silkolene Renews As Title Sponsor Of British Supersport Championship

The British Supersport Championship is set for an even bigger and better 2011 season and Fuchs-Silkolene, the world’s largest specialist motorcycle and motorsport lubricants provider, will remain as title sponsor for the fourth consecutive year. The 2010 Championship was won by GNS Racing Honda’s Sam Lowes after a season battle with CAME Yamaha’s James Westmoreland. The championship class saw ten different podium finishers and maintained an average grid size of over 34 riders throughout the season. The competition will intensify this season with a single qualifying session to decide the grid for race one and for the first time there will be two point-scoring races for the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship during each round, with the first taking place on qualifying day. The opening Sprint race will run at 75% of the feature race distance. The feature race will take place on race day and the grid for this will be decided by the fastest laps from race one. Fans can also expect some epic races as the change in regulations means that teams can no longer use advanced rider aids such as traction control and anti-wheelie control. This will allow teams with limited budgets the chance to compete against their better-funded counterparts. The Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Cup Championship will continue to run alongside the main championship and will see a mix of riders graduating from the Metzeler National Superstock 600 Championship or from club level. The 2011 championship will be once again decided over nine rounds, rather than twelve, allowing riders to discount their worst three scores. Russell Kenyon, Sales and Marketing Director at Fuchs Lubricants (UK) Plc Ltd said: “We are thrilled to continue our title sponsorship of the British Supersport Championship which has yet again produced a close-fought season and a champion who now has moved onto the world stage. This year the changes in regulations means we should see one of the best seasons in history and this is something that Silkolene want to be a part of. This sponsorship renewal just shows how Fuchs-Silkolene continues to be at the forefront of the motorcycle lubricants industry.” Stuart Higgs, BSB Series Director said: “We are delighted that Fuchs-Silkolene has renewed their title sponsorship of the British Supersport Championship for a fourth season. The partnership is clearly very affective and with the new exciting changes to the regulations for 2011 the championship will continue to provide ultra competitive racing, and with the 2010 champion Sam Lowes fast tracking into a top World Supersport ride this further emphasises the recognition of the British Championship.”
