Friends of the late WERA racer Joe Pusateri have set a fund-raising ride, raffle, barbecue and concert to benefit Pusateri’s family. Pusateri, 43, of Salinas, California, died after suffering injuries in a WERA race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in January. An officer with the Watsonville Police Department and Salinas Police Department, Pusateri was involved with SWAT Team, Range Master, Motor Traffic Unit and Patrol operations, according to event organizers. In 2009, Pusateri won the Senior Superbike Mediumweight Novice Championship in the WERA West region. Pusateri is survived by his wife Veronica, sons Alfonso and Joseph and his mother Irene. The 1st Annual Joe Pusateri Memorial Ride is scheduled for June 6. On-site registration begins at 8:00 a.m. at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, and the ride itself begins at 10:00 a.m. Racer Donny Hart is scheduled to begin the proceedings by riding a lap on one of Pusateri’s bikes (no other riders will be allowed on the track). Participants will ride from Laguna Seca to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Posse Grounds for food, a raffle and music by the band Cali Nation. No outlaw club colors will be allowed.
