More than a week and a half after a horrific crash at Colorado’s Pueblo Motorsports Park, MRA racer “Spiderman” Bob Hasenhundl (#24) remains sedated in stable but serious condition in an Intensive Care Unit near the track where it happened. Early in the last Amateur GTU race of the season, Bob left the track between turns seven and eight. While the exact details about his departure from the pavement are unclear, we believe there was possible contact with another rider which inadvertently pushed him into the dirt. Bob’s trajectory and speed at the time unfortunately sent him into a dirt berm, which catapulted Bob about 30 feet into the air and 50 yards down range, according to witnesses. The force exerted on Bob when he landed resulted in short-term head trauma, many broken or fractured bones throughout his upper body, and severe chest trauma, among other things. Because Bob remains sedated in the hospital we are not publicly releasing his full list of injuries without consent, and we are grateful for the racing community’s understanding in that matter. Bob is expected to eventually make a full recovery, but even once he is brought out of sedation we anticipate it will take several months for him to heal. Bob is also not able to have general visitation at this time, but we expect that when he is woken up and moved out of the ICU that will change, when he is ready. Bob is also the president of the Colorado Sportbike Club, a group of more than 3,500 with ties to the MRA and many charitable organizations. CSC members and fellow racers have set up a fund to help Bob with the financial burdens he will face, and are calling on riders and racers to please help if they can. Money can be sent through Paypal (including credit cards) to ‘[email protected]’, and 100% of the money we receive will be used to help him. In the event that any is left over, it will be used to improve local track safety. Pueblo Motorsports Park will be hosting a track day fund-raiser to benefit Bob as well, on Saturday November 17th. PMP has donated the use of the facility so that all money collected can go to help Bob, and we hope to get as many riders present as the track can hold. This track day will be staffed with safety crew and instructors to help inexperienced riders, all volunteering their time. Bob’s crash was not the only one to seriously injure a racer that day; MRA racer Steve Fish also remains hospitalized at this time, from a low-speed crash later that afternoon. Details about his condition are not as clear, however we were able to ascertain that doctors expect a full recovery for Steve after he heals. We ask that you please keep these racers in your thoughts, and also call upon the community to donate what you can to help Bob. Fund raising is in the works for Steve as well, and an update will follow when those details are available.
