MONTEREY, Calif. (July 8) — When round four of the 2014 AMA Pro Road Racing Series season continues July 11-13 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, GEICO Motorcycle Honda Sportbike rider Jake Zemke will be vying for a podium finish while his family looks on during the FIM Superbike World Championship, GEICO Motorcycle U.S. Round in Monterey.
“I’m really looking forward to going to Laguna Seca,” Zemke said. “It’s only an hour and a half from where I live. That means I will have lots of friends and family out at the track cheering me on. It’s a great feeling knowing that those who are close to me, that normally don’t get to watch me race, have the opportunity this weekend.
“Not to mention Laguna Seca is a really awesome track. It’s always a great event for the riders to be a part of and the fans to watch.”
Joining the AMA Pro Road Racing riders this weekend is the World Superbike Series. While Zemke enjoys watching the elite riders battle it out, he’s even more excited to watch his GEICO Motorcycle Honda teammate Chris Ulrich make his World Superbike debut.
“It’s always great to see all the guys from the World Superbike Series,” Zemke said. “What is even more exciting though is that my teammate Chris will be racing in his first ever World Superbike race. I know he’ll do a great job on the bike and I wish him the best of luck.”
Zemke will try his luck at Mazda Raceway, Friday, with Daytona Sportbike practice at 9:15 a.m. PT, followed by the first round of qualifying at 12:55 p.m. The second round of qualifying takes place at 10:40 a.m., Saturday, and the 20-lap Daytona Sportbike race at 1:25 p.m., Sunday.
