Geoff May Stars In ASRA/CCS/CRA Event At Road America

© 2018, Roadracing World Publishing, Inc.

Geoff May won multiple races at Road America this past weekend June 30-July 1 during the Championship Cup Series (CCS) combined event with American Sportbike Racing Association (ASRA) and Central Roadracing Association (CRA) in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. May won the CCS Unlimited Superbike and GTO races, as well as the AMA Sanctioned ASRA SuperStock race. He set the fastest lap of the weekend, a 2:17.017, on his CBC National Bank-sponsored BMW S1000RR equipped with Dunlop tires.

The weekend started with temperatures exceeding historic norms in the mid 90s. Racers were quick to take advantage of the track conditions on Saturday afternoon.

In the unlimited category, Expert racers Geoff May, and Kyle Ohnsorg both won a race Saturday, while Tom McKenna dominated the Amateur ranks winning both of his races.

In the 600cc races, Experts Carl Soltisz took two wins on his TSE Yamaha R6, and Josh Rom won Middleweight Supersport on his Farrell Perfomance ZX-6R. Amateur Justin Miest won all three of his races, but did not go to post-race technical inspection for Middleweight Supersport, disqualifying his result. This promoted Nicholas Johnson to the top step for Amateur Middleweight Supersport.

In the lightweight division Kevin Van Engan set the bar riding his Pirelli shod SV650, winning the GTL race as well as the ASRA Thunderbike race. In both the CCS Moto3 and ASRA Moto3 races, Stewart Aitken-Cade took top honors on his Honda RS125.

Sunday’s forecast brought the threat of thunderstorms. Race officials decided to continue race action through the lunch hour to get as much of the day complete before the rain. Fortunately all of the AMA sanctioned ASRA sprint races presented by Pirelli tire were able to be completed under dry conditions. However, the threat turned to reality as the skies opened up just after the conclusion of the ASRA SportBike race that was won by Jody Barry. The rest of Sunday saw a multitude of winners as continually changing track conditions kept everyone on their toes. The next round of CCS Midwest region will be held at Blackhawk Farms Raceway in South Beloit, Illinois, on July 28-29th. This will be a twin sprints event with a two full days of racing Saturday and Sunday.

The American Sportbike Racing Association (ASRA) is the parent organization to the Championship Cup Series (CCS), the largest Amateur motorcycle road racing organization in the United States issuing over 2800 licenses per year. ASRA promotes eight AMA sanctioned Sprint Series and seven AMA sanctioned Team Challenge road racing events for 2018. The CCS Series sanctions 40 events at popular tracks around the United States, including Daytona International Speedway, New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Homestead Miami Speedway, Road America, New Jersey Motorsports Park and Virginia International Raceway among other fine venues. In 2018 ASRA and CCS will provide riders with access to millions of dollars of sponsorship awards through participation in its sanctioned events.
