Garrett Gerloff, the 16-year-old AMA Pro Daytona SportBike racer who crashed and broke his right femur during practice at Daytona in March, returned to action on his Y.E.S. Graves Yamaha YZF-R6 during a test July 7-8 at Jennings GP, in Jennings, Florida. And although the test went well, the Texas resident says he will not be immediately returning to AMA Pro competition. “It felt good to ride again, really good,” Gerloff told Roadracingworld.com Friday in the paddock at Mid-Ohio. “After just two laps my head was back up to speed and I was able to really ride. I’m really happy.” Gerloff was accompanied to the test by Brian Stokes, who was to be his Crew Chief this season but has served as Crew Chief for Gerloff’s replacement, Tommy Hayden, so far this year. Stokes reported that Gerloff went faster during the test than he did the last time he rode at Jennings GP in 2011. Gerloff is not competing at Mid-Ohio and doubted that he would race at the next AMA Pro event, July 27-29 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, a track he has never ridden on before. In the meantime, however, he will continue testing with his next stop coming at Road America.
