SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. GingerMan Raceway’s new track configurations will make their public debut on the weekend of May 29-30, when owner Daniel Schnitta invites enthusiasts to attend a reopening event, complete with laps both days for cars and Sunday for motorcycles. “We’ll have something special for the first 40 people through the gates a bottle from a custom bottling of GingerMan wine,” Schnitta said. The new section of pavement will dramatically increase top speeds and offer multiple track configurations over the course of a race weekend. GingerMan is well known in the racing community as a technical track with excellent runoff areas. Schnitta a longtime racer himself worked closely with SCCA Formula Mazda Champion Juan “J.R.” Marchand to devise an expansion that now provides a true top-speed straightaway, combined with a high-speed sweeper section and elevation changes that significantly change the track’s character, depending on which direction they’re run. The new section continues past the existing Turn 7, and rejoins at Turn 10, adding 1,770 feet for a total of 2.21 miles per lap. The changes are consistent with GingerMan’s focus to provide a welcoming, challenging and affordable venue for club racers at various skill levels, as well as track day enthusiasts. “The new layout is going to be very challenging and it will have that top speed that everyone wants,” said Marchand, who will help Schnitta to christen the track with the first high-speed runs. “We are proud to be bringing something new, refreshing and exciting to the racing community,” Schnitta said. “We’ll also invite attendees to suggest the ‘next refinement,’ for GingerMan Raceway. Everyone thinks they can design a race track here’s their chance.” With generous runoff areas, the track will remain friendly to both cars and motorcycles, Schnitta said.
