The Graves Yamaha race team, which now includes Yamaha’s official Superbike and Daytona SportBike efforts, concluded a two-day test Tuesday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS), in Las Vegas, Nevada. 2009 AMA Pro American Superbike Championship runner-up Josh Hayes rode his 2009 YZF-R1 Superbikes, while 2009 AMA Pro Daytona SportBike Championship runner-up Josh Herrin tested his YZF-R6s. Conspicuously absent were Hayes’ 2009 teammate Ben Bostrom and Herrin’s 2009 teammate Tommy Aquino. Graves Yamaha Team Owner Chuck Graves said that Aquino went to the MotoGP season finale in Spain last weekend and his return got flight canceled. That and other travel-related issues forced him to miss the test. Bostrom’s situation, however, was not nearly as clear and 2009 factory Team Manager/Crew Chief Tom Halverson gave a “no comment” when asked about Bostrom’s status. “There’s still a lot of things up in the air for 2010,” Halverson said, choosing his words carefully. “Hopefully, we will be able to lock the whole thing down soon. “Yamaha is going racing in AMA Superbike and Daytona Sportbike under the Graves umbrella, but I just don’t have many details at this point. “Our goal is to win the AMA Superbike Championship with Josh Hayes, and we want to start the year off as strong as we finished 2009. We’re still trying to improve the bikes and keep Josh riding and ready to go for the first race of the year at Daytona.” As previously announced, Yamaha’s riders shared the Las Vegas Classic Course on Monday and the infield road course at LVMS on Tuesday with the Yamaha Champions Riding School (YCRS). Hayes, who has previously been a guest instructor at YCRS, took time out from his test to speak to the school’s students each day.
