Loudon Road Racing Series Round 5 New Hampshire Motor Speedway – Despite sweltering conditions, three riders lapped deep in the 1 minute 11 second range. Scott Greenwood was fastest with a 1:11.118 aboard his Argo Cycles Yamaha R6 equipped with Dunlop DOT labeled race tires. The lap came during his sixth win of the weekend, late on Sunday afternoon. Christian Cronin made a big step forward this weekend, recording a best lap of 1:11.322 aboard his new Markbilt powered Egg Shell/Dunlop Yamaha R6. His best laps came when trying to run down Greenwood. Club record holder, Eric Wood, was the third fastest rider of the weekend, with a 1:11.498 recorded in winning the Supertwins race. Wood was also a winner in Heavyweight Superbike and Unlimited Grand Prix aboard his venerable 2007 Woodcraft Ducati 1098 equipped with Dunlop slicks. Challenging for the LRRS #1 Plate- At the first event of the season, Rick Doucette made it clear he wanted the LRRS # 1 Overall Plate for 2010. Competing in 8 races per weekend aboard multitude of motorcycles, Doucette came away from Round 5 with five wins, two 2nd place finishes and a 4th place result. His best battles came in Lightweight Supersport and Middleweight Production Twins while competing on his Plaistow Powersports/Dunlop Suzuki SV650’s. In both races he had competition from Scott Mullin (Souhegan Kawasaki EX650) and Mark Dages (Suzuki SV650). The three ran nose to tail and swapped positions repeatedly. Near the end of both races Doucette was able to put in strong laps to finish on top. First Expert Win- Kyle Thompson, a fixture in the LRRS Paddock and the ‘go-to guy’ for Ducati help, got his first expert win in Thunderbike aboard his Seacost Sport Cycle/BCM Ducati 749. After a season of challenging Rick Doucette in the class, Thompson grabbed the lead on the first lap and powered to victory in fine fashion by laying down a best lap of 1:14.769. With the Thompson/Ducati 749 package getting stronger over recent events, Doucette purchased a new SV Superbike in which he struggled to find a setup over the course of his busy weekend. The remaining events of 2010 will be a ‘must-watch’ as the two continue their battle for the championship. After the race Thompson had this to say; “It’s been along time coming and a bit of battle to get the bike setup to compete at the front. To be competitive and challenge a rider of Rick’s caliber has been very rewarding.” Wood Races AMA Spec Tires- Jeff Wood took the Heavyweight Supersport grid aboard his Penguin School Yamaha R6 equipped with Dunlop D211 GP-A tires. Taking the holeshot, Wood attempted to make a break and pulled a small gap in the first lap. Coming from the back, Christian Cronin broke into the clear in the early turns of the first lap and set about reeling Wood back in. On the fourth lap he made an aggressive attempt for the lead in turn 1. Wood knew then he was in for a battle. Cronin worked him over hard trying to find a weakness and Wood responded by changing his lines and yielding nothing. With two laps to go, the flying leaders came up on a six rider pack of lapped traffic entering turn 1. In a breathtaking display of skill, Wood and Cronin sliced through all six before the turn 2 apex. Cronin looked to have Wood set up for a last turn attempt on the run to the flag, but came up short by a half wheel. Jeff Wood when asked about how the AMA spec tires felt; “The D211A spec AMA tires were way better than I expected! The drive grip was equal, and they wore like iron. I felt they backed in a little more than the UK stuff, but otherwise they were very similar to the regular UK race stuff we use. I think with a little more time on them, I could get to within 1/2 second of my normal race tires, pretty good for the cost and distance they last!” Motorace Dash for Cash- Scott Greenwood grabbed the holeshot but never had breathing room until the last 2 laps. At the drop of the green flag, Christian Cronin made a serious attempt to steal the lead in turn 1 but couldn’t make it stick. Greenwood hit turns 1a and 2 perfectly and clawed out a slight gap down the back straight into turn 3. Cronin repeatedly clawed back the advantage to close up tight for a passing attempt in turn 1, but never quite got as close as he did on the first lap. Further back, Jason Carter made a great start and stuck his Motorace/Michelin R6 into 3rd over Joel Allen’s Oncore Power Yamaha and Cory Hildebrand’s Bruce Transportation Yamaha. By the third lap Hildebrand worked his way into 3rd place where he ran all alone. Coming fast from the back was Brent Lyskawa aboard his Bruce Transportation Yamaha. He claimed 4th on the fifth lap and set about reeling in his teammate. By the half flags Lyskawa was all over Hildebrand but unable to do anything with him. David Fett worked his way into fifth by the checkered flag with Carter, Norman Pomerleau and Joel Allen rounding out the top eight paying spots. Cory Hildebrand on his 3rd place finish; “It was alright. I went faster, but just not fast enough. By the time I got to third those guys were long gone. It was a fun race, though.” Christian Cronin on his 2nd place finish; I felt good. It was a lot better than earlier today. I want to thank Markbilt Racing for my motor, Dunlop for helping my program, and Egg Shell for getting me here.” Scott Greenwood on his win; “I’m having a lot of fun right now. The Yamaha has been working very good. I want to thank Argo Cycles, the Penguin School, Dunlop tires, Arai and Vanson leathers for their continued support.” The Loudon Road Racing Series returns to New Hampshire Motor Speedway August 7-8.
