Cardenas, 48 points More, from a press release issued by Pirelli: May, Cardenas, Charge to Double Supersport Podium for Pirelli Rome, Georgia: It’s a record pile of podiums for Pirelli with five rounds remaining. Pirelli has already exceeded its total of 12 podium finishes in the 2006 AMA Superbike series with M4 EMGO Suzuki racers Geoff May and Martin Cardenas claiming two more steps on the podium in Sunday’s Supersport race at Miller Motorsports Park, putting the Pirelli podium total for 2007 at 14. May finished second and Cardenas third, in an exciting wheel-to-wheel climax in the 13-lap race. And yeah, the weather was just as blisteringly hot as it had been the two days prior. Really hot. In the race, Cardenas ran no lower than third, moving back into second on lap six where he remained tailing race-winner Jamie Hacking, until a hard-charging May stormed from fourth into third on the second from last lap, and then into second on the last lap. In all, May earned second by coming all the way up from his sixth place on lap one. May’s Suzuki GSX-R600 was shod with Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SC3 front and SC1 rear compounds, while Cardenas’ used SC2 front and SC1 rear Diablo Supercorsas. Other Pirelli-mounted top finishers in the Supersport race include Steve Rapp in tenth on his Attack Kawasaki ZX-6R, Team Hunter’s Cory West in 12th on his Yamaha YZF-R6, Rapp’s teammate Ben Attard in 13th, and the up-and-coming M4 EMGO Suzuki rider Michael Beck in 14th. Sunday’s Superstock race saw an incredible performance by Roadracingworld.com Suzuki’s Robertino Pietri, riding his GSX-R1000 to fourth place, his best finish ever in the series. Pietri’s teammate, Chris Ulrich, continued his equally enhanced performance with a seventh-place finish. Up one spot from Ulrich, in sixth, was Scott Jensen, who has recently stepped up his riding to the top level on his HALOF Racing GSX-R1000. In Sunday’s Superbike Race Two, Jensen again ruled the under funded with a 13th-place finish that put him as the number-two finishing privateer. Prominently podium-finishing Geoff May was an unusual 11th in Superstock on his M4 EMGO Suzuki, all riders using the Pirelli Diablo Superbike Slick. More, from a press release issued by M4 EMGO Suzuki: MAY AND CARDENAS ON THE UTAH SUPERSPORT PODIUM Team M4 EMGO Suzuki scored their first dual podium finish of the AMA season on Sunday at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, UT. Team riders Geoff May and Martin Cardenas starred in the 13-lap Supersport final, finishing second and third following an intense multi-rider battle for the podium. Colombian Cardenas got a rocket start at the green light aboard his Pirelli-shod GSX-R600, storming from the third row into first place by the time the pack hit the race’s opening corner. The former Spanish Supersport champion soon found himself in a dogfight for second, scrapping with a number of the class’ heavy hitters, including teammate May. After spending the majority of the race studying his opposition, May made his move late to jump into the runner-up spot on the final lap. Cardenas tried to counterattack and the two Team M4 EMGO Suzuki riders pushed each other to second and third place finishes at the checkered flag. Second-placed May said, “I can’t believe Martin came from the third row. The kid is riding awesome, doing an unbelievable job filling in for Barney. Hats off to him, he rode a really hard race. “I just sat behind those guys the whole time, just waiting. I couldn’t get by them and leave them, so I figured I’d just wait until the end and get them when they didn’t expect it and take it from them. I had been watching all race, studying where they were weak and it turned out good for us today.” The result was Cardenas’ second AMA podium, following up quickly on his Road America Formula Xtreme third. Cardenas commented: “I was fast in some sections and Geoff was faster in others. I thought I might be able to pass him but I lost traction and that was it. I was glad to finish third. I want to thank the M4 EMGO Suzuki team, Pirelli, and my mechanics. They worked very hard for me.” Michael Beck gave the team three finishers in the top 15, taking the checkered flag in 14th position. May was also in contention for a podium result in the Superstock contest, guiding his GSX-R1000 to a secure third before an electrical problem spoiled his day and ultimately knocked him down to 11th. Team M4 EMGO Suzuki will be back in action on July 20-22 at Laguna Seca for the highly anticipated combined MotoGP/AMA race weekend.
