This impressive ride follows the young rider’s Laguna Seca AMA Superbike race win on Saturday. Also the previous day, Spies and the Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R600 had carded the second spot on the AMA Supersport starting grid after posting a fastest lap time of 1:28.334. “Every race, we get a little bit closer to pole position,” said Spies of his qualifying time. “As I’ve said before, we’re just continuing to develop the new GSX-R600 and our work is paying off.” Spies’ comments were prophetic in that his team’s work is definitely paying off. In the 17-lap Supersport race, the 22-year-old got a great start on his Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R600 and was in the lead immediately. He charged hard and eventually wound up coming home in third position. “It’s not quite a win, but I’ll take the podium,” said Spies. “It’s good to get the Yoshimura Suzuki on the box. The bike is running really well and it helped that we didn’t have a Superbike race 20 minutes after the Supersport race, so I was able to ride the bike like I wanted to. I’m not trying to choose favorites, but I’m leading the points in Superbike so I’m a little more focused on that. But my team has worked really hard on developing the GSX-R600 so I’m really happy to get a podium for them.” Ben Spies, Team Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R600, #11 3rd Place AMA SuperSport 13th Place Overall SuperSport Top 10 Finishers: Jamie Hacking, Yamaha Roger Lee Hayden, Kawasaki Ben Spies, Team Yoshimura Suzuki Ben Attard, Kawasaki Michael Barnes, M4 EMGO Suzuki Danny Eslick, Matsushima Performance Suzuki Geoff May, M4 EMGO Suzuki Blake Young, Matsushima Performance Suzuki Tony Meiring, Suzuki Josh Herrin, Yamaha
