Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jamie Hacking will not ride in the 2008 AMA Superbike Championship finale Sunday at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. “I’m way too beat up. I slammed the ground pretty hard. Plus, I’ve got nothing to gain,” Hacking told Roadracingworld.com via cell phone from his hotel room Sunday morning. “I’m lucky to just be here.” Hacking suffered a big crash during AMA Superbike qualifying Saturday when his ZX-10R Superbike broke traction coming down through Rainey Curve. Hacking was thrown out of the seat, but when he landed back on his motorcycle he was barely hanging on as it sped off towards trackside barriers. Hacking said he thought about trying to regain control but quickly changed his mind and jumped off. “I was going too fast,” said Hacking, “so once I got into the gravel I went down.” Hacking was transported by ambulance to a hospital in Salinas, California. After a round of X-rays and CT scans he was diagnosed with small bone fractures and a dislocated bone in his left hand. He plans to have the hand examined further by famed orthopedic surgeon Dr. Arthur Ting, who has offices in Fremont, California, as soon as possible. Hacking walked out of the hospital late Saturday night. “I was just riding hard, way too hard for what I had,” said Hacking. “But that’s just the way I am. Hopefully, I’ll be alright and won’t need any surgery.” Monster Energy Kawasaki is also without the services of Roger Hayden at Laguna Seca. Hayden was injured in a crash four weeks ago at Road Atlanta. Hayden suffered chipped bones and a shoulder injury that prevented him from riding at the season finale. The team imported five-time Canadian Superbike Champion Jordan Szoke to ride Hayden’s ZX-10R Superbike at Laguna Seca. Szoke rode the bike for the first time Saturday and qualified 12th in Superbike Saturday afternoon.
