TOP RIDERS POST FAST TIMES ON FIRST DAY OF BRNO TESTS The Superpole and race lap record holder at the 5.403km Brno circuit, Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia) struck the biggest psychological blow in the first day of testing at Brno, setting a 2’01.0 best lap, 1.5 seconds faster than his best race lap in 2006. He was only 0.5 seconds from his remarkable Superpole best of 2006. The Japanese rider obviously has a special affinity for the Brno circuit, but he was closely followed on day one by the reigning champion, Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox), who set a 2’01.5 on his way to second best time. TOSELAND THIRD QUICKEST Current championship leader James Toseland (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) posted a 2’01.9, with last year’s double Brno race winner, Yukio Kagayama (Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra) on a 2’02.2. 1996 and 2005 World Champion Troy Corser (Yamaha Motor Italia was in the mix with a 2’02.3, just ahead of Bayliss’ team-mate Lorenzo Lanzi, on a 2’02.5. BIAGGI WORKING ON IMPROVEMENTS A man who knows his way around Brno very well, if not on a Superbike quite yet, Max Biaggi (Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra), had to settle for a 2’02.9 for the time being. The Kawasaki of Regis Laconi took him to a 2’03.2, with Roby Rolfo (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) and Fonsi Nieto (Psg-1 Kawasaki Corse) rounding out the top riders, with one more day of action remaining on Wednesday. Noriyuki Haga 2:01.0 Troy Bayliss 2:01.5 James Toseland 2:01.9 Yukio Kagayama 2:02.2 Troy Corser 2:02.3 Lorenzo Lanzi 2:02.5 Max Biaggi 2:02.9 Regis Laconi 2:03.2 Roby Rolfo 2:03.5 Fonsi Nieto 2:03.7 SUPERSPORT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP- PARKES OUT IN FRONT Hot on the heels of a podium finish at Misano, Broc Parkes (Yamaha World Supersport Racing Team) scored fastest in the WSS division, setting a 2’05.2, to go a tenth faster than this season’s ‘magic man’, Kenan Sofuoglu (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda). A tie on 2’06.0 saw Finnish rider Vesa Kallio (Pioneer Hoegee Suzuki) match the best of double World Champion Sebastien Charpentier (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda). Steve Martin, riding for the Yamaha World Supersport Team since the departure of Anthony West, set a 2’06.1 beating the quickest of the Kawasaki riders, Fabien Foret (GIL Kawasaki) who was lodged on a 2’06.2.
