Hamill, Weaver Split AHRMA Sound Of Thunder Wins At Willow Springs

Former Speedway World Champion Billy Hamill and Rob Weaver each took a turn atop the podium in the headlining Sound Of Thunder races in AHRMA competition at Willow Springs on April 27 and 28.

Hamill took his Buell 1125R to the win in Saturday’s contest, holding off Paul Vogel’s Ducati by a mere 0.932 seconds at the line after eight laps of the classic 2.5-mile circuit. John Ulrich was third on his Yamaha TZ250, ahead of Alan Brown on another Ducati.

Hamill returned to the podium on Sunday, but this time it was good enough only for third place. Sunday’s Sound of Thunder race belonged to Weaver, who took his turn holding off Vogel. The Ducati rider made it even closer to the top of the podium this time around, crossing the line 0.720 seconds behind Weaver. Hamill was just a second further back, but well clear of Max Cappellari and his Ducati.

Hamill piled up a stack of podiums over the weekend, with a second in Battle Of Twins Formula One and a third in Battle Of Twins Formula Three on Saturday, and wins in CB160 and 200cc GP, and a second in Battle Of Twins Formula Three on Sunday.

Weaver also notched the Battle of Twins Formula One win on Sunday over Vogel, while Ulrich took the Open Two-Stroke win on Sunday.
