LAKEVILLE, Conn. The Skip Barber Racing School is proud to announce life-long motorcycle racer, test rider, industry consultant and coach, Jeff Haney, as its Chief Instructor for the soon-to-be launched Skip Barber Superbike School Powered by KTM. The school will utilize KTM motorcycles and debut in 2009 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. “We are extremely fortunate to have someone of Jeff’s caliber joining us in this key position,” said George Ayres, president and COO of the Skip Barber Racing School. “Jeff brings with him a wealth of experience we can draw upon that he’s gained over a lifetime on two wheels.” Haney was a lead instructor at Freddie Spencer’s High Performance Riding School at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Miller Motorsports Park from 1998 through the end of 2007. Haney originated a segment of the school’s curriculum and was involved in its continued development. “I am very proud of everyone who I have helped in my 22 plus years of consulting/coaching/teaching become a better motorcycle rider/racer, from the beginner in street riding to the development of other instructors, and of course to the highest level and honor of racing World Champions,” said Haney. “Even if it’s not your goal to be a World Champion or race motorcycles, the understanding that allows World Champions to become consistent and successful (without falling down) is priceless to everyone who aspires to become a better, smarter and safer rider. This is what you can look forward to at the Skip Barber Superbike School Powered by KTM.” Haney’s career started in 1974 on the dirt ovals of California as a teenage protégé of the legendary Kenny Roberts. Soon after, Haney was signed by Honda and teamed with Freddie Spencer as a factory dirt track racer. As a team, they finished one-two on several occasions. With a move to road racing in 1984, Haney earned a number of top finishes in AMA and international races, including third place in the 1985 Daytona 200. After retiring at the end of the 1986 season, Haney teamed up with Kevin Schwantz as trainer/instructor, and thus added Bubba Shobert and Scott Russell to his roster of clients. Haney has contributed to a number of prominent motorcycle magazines over the years, including riding in several motorcycle shoot-out features. Most recently Haney test rode for Michelin prior to the 2008 MotoGP at Indianapolis.
