BMW Motorrad Motorsport’s Leon Haslam was unofficially the quickest rider during the second day of a three-day World Superbike test at the Algarve Circuit, in Portimao, Portugal. Haslam turned a best time of 1:43.2 on his S1000RR, according to the official World Superbike website. Eugene Laverty was unofficially second with a lap of 1:43.3 on his Alitalia Aprilia RSV4 Factory in spite of a highside crash during the day. Laverty was able to walk away from the crash and was relatively uninjured, according to www.worldsbk.com. Ayrton Badovini finished third-best on the day with a 1:43.4 on his BMW Motorrad Italia S1000RR, just ahead of former Superbike World Champion Max Biaggi’s 1:43.6 on his factory Aprilia. Current Supersport World Champion Chaz Davies was fifth on Tuesday’s time sheets with a 1:44.2 on his new ParkinGO Aprilia Superbike, well ahead of Haslam’s new teammate Marco Melandri, who did a 1:44.3 on his factory BMW S1000R. Leon Camier worked on coming to grips with his new Crescent Suzuki GSX-R1000 and recorded a seventh-fastest 1:44.7, while Badovini’s new teammate Michel Fabrizio was eighth. Current British Supersport Champion Alastair Seeley, who is standing in for Crescent Suzuki’s John Hopkins while his injured right hand recovers from surgery, was ninth at 1:46.1. The test concludes Wednesday.
