Erion Honda’s Josh Hayes took AMA Supersport pole on a wet-but-drying track at Road America Saturday, switching from Dunlop rain tires to DOT-labeled tires mid-session and jumping to the top of the order at the last moments with a 2:31.064. Hayes did his times in the session for the fastest half of the field based on practice times. The second qualifying session, for the slower half of the field based on practice times, acually went faster as the track continued to dry but will be gridded behind all the riders from the first qualifying session. Gridding is based on an AMA rule that goes into effect if there are “significant” differences in track conditions for the two qualifying groups.
