AMERICAN double Formula Extreme Champion Josh Hayes will make his World Supersport Championship debut for the Parkalgar Honda team at Vallelunga in Italy this weekend. Hayes will race for Parkalgar Honda for the last three races of the season and has already enjoyed a test on the CBR600RR at Cadwell Park in England last week. The 33-year-old from Gulfport, Mississippi is hoping to put himself in the shop window for a permanent World Supersport berth in 2009 and is known for his no-compromise, hard riding style. Portuguese rider Miguel Praia will join Hayes in Vallelunga and is keen to score more Championship points on the run in to the end of the season and the final race of the year at his home track in Portugal. The World Supersport race takes place at 1320 on Sunday, September 21st, with practice and qualifying sessions on the previous two days at the 4.11km circuit. Simon Buckmaster, Parkalgar Honda Team Manager, said: “Josh tested the Parkalgar Honda at Cadwell Park in the UK. Unfortunately it was in wet conditions at a track he had never visited before but it was a good positive test. The team fitted the bike to Josh and got a feeling for how he works in the garage and that will help in Italy. “With the speed he learnt Cadwell Park and his racing pedigree we are optimistic he can compete in the top 10 at Vallelunga. “Miguel is building his effort in time for the final race of the season at our team’s circuit at Portimao in Portugal and he really wants to impress. He has a bike and the team around him to score points and we’ll be doing all we can to support him to do so this weekend.”
