Epic Battle Shaping Up Between Hayes, Young at Great Clips® Moto Jam SONOMA, Calif. (April 23, 2012) “” Josh Hayes vs. Blake Young. That’s the rivalry that is brewing in the AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike class and it should come to a boil at the Great Clips® West Coast Moto Jam at Infineon Raceway, May 4-6. In all, the annual AMA Pro Road Racing weekend in the Sonoma Valley will feature seven main events, including two in the premier SuperBike division, which Hayes has dominated with three wins in the last four features at Infineon Raceway. Hayes and Young each won a SuperBike main event this past weekend at Road Atlanta, with Young taking a thrilling win on Saturday after suffering an early crash. Hayes rebounded on Sunday with a 5.214-second win over Young. Hayes (Yamaha), who should be the favorite entering Sonoma, has a six-point lead over Young (116-110), who rides for Yoshimura Suzuki. Roger Hayden (Suzuki) sits in third place (78). Oakland native and Acalanes High School graduate (East Bay) Steve Rapp is sixth in points after four races. “It’s a lot easier on my ticker to be able to get away a little bit and ride by myself,” Hayes said of his five-second win over Young on Sunday at Road Atlanta. In GoPro Daytona SportBike, Martin Cardenas (Suzuki) swept both races at Road Atlanta, giving him 18 wins in his SportBike career. He leads the standings over Suzuki’s Dane Westby (82-62), Suzuki’s Tommy Hayden (60) and Vacaville’s Joey Pascarella (Yamaha, 55). Pascarella won the season-opening Daytona 200. Cardenas has three-career SportBike wins in Sonoma and is primed for another strong outing. Jason DiSalvo (Triumph) swept the SportBike doubleheader at Infineon Raceway in 2011. Other local riders to keep an eye on in Sonoma include Discovery Bay’s Elena Myers (Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport) and Petaluma’s Tyler O’Hara (Pro Vance & Hines XR1200). Myers became the first female in history to win an AMA Pro Road Race when she took the checkers in Sonoma in SuperSport in 2010. O’Hara, meanwhile, rode his Harley-Davidson to the win at Road Atlanta after starting on the pole. Stockton’s Bobby Fong posted two sixth-place efforts in SportBike at Road Atlanta while Petaluma High School graduate Ben Bostrom was eighth in one of the SuperBike features.
