Peris, 65 More, from a press release issued by M4 EMGO Suzuki: CARDENAS EARNS TOP FIVE IN VIRGINIA FORMULA XTREME Team M4 EMGO Suzuki put in a strong effort on Saturday at Virginia International Raceway, earning a top-five race result and two front-row grid positions. Martin Cardenas continued to impress, claiming his third Formula Xtreme top five since taking over for the injured Michael Barnes at mid-season. Once again, the Colombian outraced his starting position, battling up to fifth at the checkered flag after qualifying ninth on his Pirelli-shod GSX-R600 in his first race weekend visit to VIR. Geoff May also ran well on Saturday, qualifying on the front row for Saturday’s Supersport and Superstock finals. The Georgian was third fastest in the middleweight class, qualifying with a best lap of 1:27.256 aboard his GSX-R600. He was fourth fastest in the big-bore class, circulating the raceway on the Virginia-North Carolina border in a time of 1: 25.844 on his GSX-R1000. Afterwards, May said, “Not a bad day for Team M4 EMGO Suzuki and Pirelli. It seems to be the norm — we’re always there, we’re always in the fight; we just need to find that little bit extra to take these guys. We did really well here last year and I think you’ll see the same again this year. I’m got a lot of time on this track and we know we’re fast so it should be a good raceday for the team. “I’ve got a good view of the first turn from the front row. This is as good a weekend as any to put it on top of the box. We’ll just see how it turns out. I’ve been training really hard and I’m ready for the fight.” Cardenas will look to battle at the front again on Sunday after qualifying on the second row for the Supersport race. The former Spanish Supersport champ was eighth fastest in Saturday’s qualifying session at 1:27.825 . Michael Beck will open the 17-lap Supersport final from the fifth row. The Californian was 19th in Saturday’s session, posting a best time of 1:28.935.
