DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike Series has reached the halfway point of it’s 2010 season and the MotoConnect.net Pole Award standings are tied with two riders sitting at the top of the competition for the end-of-the-season prize of $10,000 to the rider who takes the most pole positions in the premier National Guard SuperBike class. Aaron Yates, riding for the Jordan Motorsports Suzuki team took the early lead in the season-long competition supported by MotoConnect.net with a dramatic first pole position for the Jordan team at the season opening race at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. Yates backed up his speed at the second round at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California with another pole position, but was unfortunately injured by a fall in the morning warm-up in preparation for the race. Yates continues his recovery and is expected to return to the track before the end of the season. The next rider to stake his claim on the $10,000.00 prize was Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider Blake Young at the third round at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia. Young immediately set the pace on his Yoshimura prepared Suzuki and took the pole position in a convincing manner which provided the icing on the cake as he swept the weekend races for his first wins in the SuperBike class. After three rounds, Yates was still leading the MotoConnect.net Pole Award standings but with him on the sidelines, the opportunity for another rider to stamp his mark on the Award was taken by Team Graves Yamaha rider Josh Hayes. Hayes began his total domination of the Infineon round of the National Guard SuperBike weekend by claiming the pole position and, like Young at the previous race, Hayes went on to capture both race wins at Infineon. As the series moved to Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin’s Road America circuit, Hayes once again exhibited his speed by claiming his second pole position of the season. This puts him in a tie with Aaron Yates for the overall MotoConnect.net Pole Award lead with five possible pole positions remaining to be claimed. Will Hayes consolidate his advantage? Can Yates return in time to build on his total?
