Aspar Team and Yonny Hernández together in 2016

Spanish team and Colombian rider join forces in quest for success next season

The MotoGP World Championship is entering its most important period of the year as titles are decided and the line-up for next season takes shape. The Aspar Team has already moved ahead with its plans for the 2016 season, and after much negotiation the outfit from Valencia can finally confirm an agreement with Yonny Hernández. The Colombian rider has four years’ experience in the premier-class after spending two seasons in Moto2, and at 27 years of age he has proven his worth on the MotoGP grid.

Yonny Hernández arrives at the Aspar Team ready to continue his development. The man from Medellín is keen to learn from one of the most established and professional teams in the paddock as he aims to take the next step forward in his progression. Meanwhile, Jorge Martínez ‘Aspar’ has seen enough from the rider over the past few seasons to have full confidence in his talent and potential. There are major changes in store for MotoGP in 2016 (equal software, tyres and fuel capacity for all bikes), and the Aspar Team and Yonny Hernández are ready to take on the challenge together.

Jorge Martínez ‘Aspar’: “I think Yonny is a great rider and we have spoken to him on a few occasions in the past. He has a lot of potential and he has shown on several occasions that he is very fast. I am sure that the Aspar Team, with our experience and professionalism, can help him continue to develop and achieve great results. On our side we will continue to work hard and take the necessary steps forward so that the Aspar Team returns to the top, where it belongs. I am sure we will have plenty to celebrate next season. Yonny is an experienced rider and with our method of working he will improve his consistency in races, which is an area where Yonny still has room to improve.”

Yonny Hernández: “I am very excited to be joining the Aspar Team, we have been trying to work together for a few seasons now but never reached an agreement but finally we are together. I am really happy to form part of the Aspar Team, and my objective is to work hard and give everything to achieve the best possible results for the team next season. I know the Aspar Team is a very professional outfit and I am sure that we can reach a high level next season. This is a winning team, as they have shown over many years, and I am hopeful we can adapt quickly to the changes for 2016 and benefit from them. It will be a new challenge, with all of the riders starting from scratch with the new electronics and tyres.”
