HILL ON POLE FOR CADWELL PARK BRITISH SUPERBIKE Worx Crescent Suzuki’s Tommy Hill powered his GSX-R1000 to pole position – his third consecutive pole and fourth front-row – for the Cadwell Park British Superbike Championship fourth round. Hill spent much of practice experimenting with different suspension settings, but posted top-three times in the first and second practice sessions on Friday. Then, after changing his fork set-up, he dropped to seventh fastest in final practice, but the experiments ultimately proved worthwhile as Hill was able to lap consistently-quick throughout the first and second qualifying sessions before dropping over a quarter of a second on his previous best times in the final session – and became the only rider to record 1m: 27s laps. Tommy Hill: “We’re always trying to move forwards so we started the weekend as something of a test, trying out different settings with the forks. We weren’t concentrating on lap times; just feel and that seems to have helped as the final set-up worked really well and the lap times came to me, so that pole time wasn’t a hang-it-out one-off. “The times aren’t as fast as in the past but it’s very warm here and so no one can get to the times we’d like. All the same I’m confident we have a good race set-up, I’m looking forward to getting out there tomorrow and getting the job done. “Last word is for my team-mate Yukio Kagayama: I’d just like to say get well soon mate – looking forward to seeing you at Mallory.” Jack Valentine – Team Manager: “We’ve seen another great performance from Tommy this afternoon, no question. The team worked hard through practice to develop a set-up that would work around here and that hard work paid off with a considerably-faster pace come the qualifying. It’s been a very satisfying two-days’ work. “As ever, it’s about the races now. And again we’ll remain focused on those podium finishes and collecting those all-important points that carry forward into the Showdown at the end of the season.” MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship Swan Roll for Pole result: 1. John Laverty (Buildbase Kawasaki) +1.239s More, from a press release issued by Swan Honda: CHALLENGING CADWELL PARK QUALIFYING FOR EASTON Swan Honda’s Stuart Easton will start from the third row of the grid tomorrow for the opening race of the day following a challenging Swan Combi Roll for Pole qualifying session at Cadwell Park this afternoon. Easton had set the pace at the start of the weekend in the opening free practice session and this afternoon the Swan Honda team worked hard to make improvements ahead of tomorrow’s two races. In the scorching conditions Easton ended the day 0.758 seconds off the pole position time to qualify seventh. Easton said: “Qualifying was a bit of a struggle and we made changes in all three of the sessions to try something different, but because it was never the same thing twice it made it difficult to work out what was working in our favour. I did a good 1m:28.6s lap in the first practice session but other than this morning I haven’t been able to match that time. We know what we need to do in warm up tomorrow morning so with some changes including dropping the front end and stiffening up the suspension I hope we can be back up there and challenging for another podium finish for Swan Honda.” MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship, Cadwell Park, Swan Roll for Pole result: 1.
