In spite of showing promising results during a few appearances in the 2011 AMA Pro National Guard Superbike series and announcing intentions to continue racing the KTM RC8 R full-time in 2012, HMC Racing/KTM has cancelled its plans to compete in the 2012 AMA Pro National Guard Superbike Championship, leaving Chris Fillmore without a ride and AMA Pro Superbike short one quality entry. “It did get cancelled, unfortunately,” team owner Mitch Hansen told Roadracingworld.com in a telephone interview Tuesday. “I got a call, I don’t know, a couple of weeks ago from Brad Hagi [KTM North America Vice President Street Division] and John Hinz [KTM North America Product Line Manager]. It looks like a big sponsor that they were counting on didn’t come through, [and] unfortunately that was the end of it. That’s basically all I was told was that a sponsor that they were counting on didn’t come through, and that meant the program had to be cancelled.” “It’s extremely disappointing for everyone,” said Fillmore, who finished seventh in his AMA Pro Superbike debut with the HMC Racing/KTM RC8 R at Mid-Ohio. “I know Mitch tried really hard to get the program together, and he did an awesome job. I think we did an awesome job given the time that we had. “It’s tough. It seems like it’s happening everywhere, though, and it’s not the first time it’s happened to me. I’m getting a little callous to it. It seems to happen every couple of years now. You plan something and for one reason or another it falls through. Right now I’m just trying to stay positive and find other options and go from there.” Hansen said that because he is 100% loyal to KTM he may not go racing at all in 2012, but Fillmore is hoping that his 2011 AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Championship will provide him with some opportunities or at least earn him the chance to run his number one plate on someone’s Harley-Davidson in 2012.
