American Honda’s satellite teams, Corona Extra Racing and Erion Racing, are going road racing in the 2009 AMA Pro Racing series and Neil Hodgson may join one of the teams. That’s the word from American Honda’s Manager of Motorcycle Press, Bill Savino, who told Roadracingworld.com, “Both of those [teams] will go racing in 2009. There’s a possibility of Neil ending up on one of those two teams. We’re still working through the details of that. “Corona now has Jake Holden. They’re going to race [American] Superbike. Erion is going ahead with the 600 team. So Erion is going to continue to concentrate on 600s with Jake [Zemke] and [Chris] Peris, and Jake Holden is going to be on the Corona team. But that’s about as far as we got for right now.” Savino went on to say American Honda plans to sit down with Hodgson, who is contracted through 2009, and see what works best for everyone involved. As for the crew members of the American Honda factory road race team, Savino said, “The guys that are contracted in the shop are going to continue to work. We’re not letting anyone go. We’re not saying, ‘Hey, sorry it’s Christmas, but you guys are gonna have to go find a new job.’ That’s something that took a lot of thought and a lot of hard work to make this all work. The only guy who doesn’t have a contract right now is [Team Manager] Ron Heben, but he is contracted through February of 2009. “We’re going to continue to work with the guys. There could be resources driven into Erion. There could be resources driven into Corona. There could be resources even put over into our Motorcycle Resource Center, which is our shop, where they could do some things over there. So the good news is these guys aren’t jobless, which is a real positive part of this whole thing.”
