Knowledgeable sources say that American Honda will announce to its dealers tomorrow night that Neil Hodgson will join Miguel Duhamel on Honda CBR1000RR Superbikes for the 2008 AMA season. Which means that Jake Zemke will not be riding for Team Honda. Zemke’s agent, Bobby Moore, has been shopping Zemke to other teams in the AMA paddock. But Yoshimura Suzuki is full up for 2008 with Mat Mladin, Ben Spies and Tommy Hayden. Insiders say that Monster Energy Kawasaki has reached a 2008 renewal agreement with Roger Hayden, and Jamie Hacking has another year on his Kawasaki contract. Which leaves Yamaha as the only reasonably competitive factory AMA Superbike team without a full roster for 2008, and sources say the company is “pulling in its horns” and reducing its racing budget as a result of falling motorcycle sales. Where Zemke–and other riders longing for a factory Superbike ride–will end up is anybody’s guess. It could be Yamaha, or it could be out of work. Details to follow as they become available.
