Hogan, Knopf and Narbonne Get Wins, Narbonne Sets Records
Loudon, NH – The AMA sanctioned ASRA Sprint Series presented by Pirelli Tire made its annual trek to the New Hampshire Motor Speedway for Round 6 of the 2015 Championship on August 16. While the weather was hot for everyone in the paddock, Shane Narbonne on his Yamaha R-1 was cool and collected as he set records for ASRA SuperStock both in qualifying and the 12 lap final event. Narbonne lowered his 2009 qualifying record set on a Suzuki 600 from 1:11.035 to the new mark of 1:10.748 aboard his Yamaha. Even after a hard crash on Saturday in the “Dash for Cash”, Narbonne was ready when the flag flew in Sundays SuperStock final, eventually lowering the record held by Steve Giacamaro from 1:11.130 to 1:10.983. The fast laps earned Narbonne a win over Houck Nichols on his Suzuki 750 by 16.943 seconds. Series regular and points leader David Loikits ran off the track in turn 3 while trying to hold off Lloyd Bayley and in the process gave up part of his points lead. Bayley took advantage of the mishap and finished in third place on his Suzuki 1000. Even with the 6th place finish, Loikits still heads into the next round with an 28 point lead over Bayley in the championship with 2 rounds remaining.
In the SportBike contest, it was Kristofer Knopf on his Yamaha R-6 setting the pace and eventually pulling out to a 23.253 second margin of victory over Trevor Arvidson on a Suzuki 600. The final podium spot was taken by Angel Nunez on his Kawasaki 600. With the victory, Knopf moves up to 6th in the season standings, but still has to overcome a 47 point deficit to capture the championship.
When you speak of ThunderBike at NHMS, you normally think of series point leader Doug Fogg or Rick Doucette as the people to beat but you can add Tim Hogan’s name to the list now. After trailing Keith Draghi and Doug Fogg for the first couple of laps, Hogan pushed his Ducati 749 to the front of the field and never trailed again. By the end of the 12 lap race, it was Hogan 3.055 seconds in front of Fogg on the Buell and first year Expert Savvas Kosimdis and his Kawasaki 650 in third. The runner up finish for Fogg netted him a 53 point lead with just two rounds left in the championship.
The Amateur race winners were Kris Hopkins riding a Suzuki SV650 in ThunderBike, Ryan Stockman on his Honda 600 to victory in Sportbike and Christopher Woodman taking the SuperStock win on his Yamaha R-6.
