Team Honda Racing Go Navy for a day 14th April 2011 What a thrill! Team Honda Racing visited HMAS Coonawarra yesterday at Larrakeyah Barracks in Darwin and was given a fantastic insight into Navy life by the very friendly personnel of the barracks. Boarding a RHIB (Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat) was in itself a treat, but the team was then able to tour an Armidale Class Patrol boat which was definitely an eye-opener for Team Honda Racing Riders Wayne Maxwell and Jamie Stauffer. Wayne Maxwell: “For me the thing that stuck in my mind the most was the way the crew work together. Everyone was well disciplined and to see that level of respect and communication amongst the crew was a real eye opener.” Finding their sea legs as the Patrol boat sailed the harbour was perhaps not quite as easy as finding a good race line on their Honda CBR1000RR’s, but both riders were impressed by all they saw. Jamie Stauffer: “It was really interesting to see all the electronic and navigation equipment on the bridge and to be given such an in depth tour of the boat was terrific, I’ve never seen anything like that before.” After a rundown of the weapons used by the Navy patrol boats and some tech-talk between the Navy engineers and the Team Honda Racing technicians it was time to return to dry land. The Honda team cannot thank the very friendly personnel at HMAS Coonawarra enough for such a fantastic experience and hope to see a few of them at Hidden Valley Raceway this weekend (15th 17thApril) as they compete in the Australian Superbike Championship.
